D&D 5E D&D 5e Questionnaire

Interesting slate of questions.

I don't intend to skew any potential answers, but I'm curious what your goals are with these questions. Mind sharing, or would you prefer to keep that private?

This is kind of an assignment of my university. I'm a 4th year Communication and Multimedia Design student at Avans University of applied sciences in the Netherlands.
Some questions i would like to have answered include (but are not limited to):
With what focus group in mind is 5e developed?
Are there certain things in the game people are missing?
How accessible is this edition of D&D?

If i can analyze what kind of things people are missing in 5e i could write some recommendations for example.
I do intend to make new content for the game, this however will not be sold.

I hope I've satisfied your curiosity a little bit^^

Kind regards.

As a long time player and brand new DM some interesting questions.

How much have people spent on Mini's alone? I might have a problem.

How much have people spent on Mini's alone? I might have a problem.
I've spent around $2,000 on minis... so long as you only count the ones I currently have (2 kickstarters worth of Bones, a ton of paints, fancy brushes and a light for my workspace, plus the first set of Pathfinder minis, and the old WotC gargantuan and colossal dragons), and not the few hundred of old WotC minis that I gave to one of my gaming group as a going away present when they left town to take their first professorship.

Done.

I had some issues with some of the questions; for example, asking whether we use homebrew or WotC adventures leaves out the option I actually follow: 3PP campaign settings and adventures. Also, it's funny to me that the longest time period you have as an option for playing 5e is two years, when even the finalized version has been out for going on three years. "How much money have you spent on D&D" also becomes a somewhat meaningless quesiton for those of us who have been playing for decades.

That said, you had some interesting questions. I hope the survey results are beneficial to you.

Done.

Though I did have feedback on a few questions:

How much have you spent - did you want to limit that to just this edition of D&D or overall? Also, did you want totals including 3rd party products, going to conventions, dice, etc.? Do we include d20 OGL like Pathfinder & 13th Age?

How many people in your group assumes a single group. I run one group, play another group, was playing a third.

Also, some of the questions with radio buttons were hard to find the correct answer. For example, there was one about if there was enough variety in the monster manual. I reskin and modify monsters all the time to fit my homebrew setting so obviously I need more variety. But my homebrew's feel isn't something I would expect to find in a monster manual and I'm not looking for more monsters just for more monsters, so I am satisfied with the variety they provide. On the gripping hand, cool lore for monsters has inspired me to use them, so I'd like that - but that's not about variety of monsters, it's about the hooks they are provided with.

Are you willing to share the answers after you close the survey? There were a lot of thought provoking questions in there and I'd be interested to see how my peers answered them.

The "how much do you spend" question could perhaps be amended to "how much have you spent on 5e". I've yet to spend a dime on 5e, DMing solely off of WotC's freely released material and a handy "expected difficulty" chart. The rest I pull from the books I already have for other editions, converting as needed.
