Another sorta-but-not-really tongue-in-cheek sub-class.

No, You Move
When you choose this path at level 3, you may carry a shield and still use your other monk abilities, as long as your other hand is empty. In addition, the shield is a Monk Weapon in your hands:
Shield 1d6 bludgeoning damage thrown (30/60)
When you throw your shield, you may spend 1 Ki to have it return to your hand at the end of the turn.

I Could Do This All Day
At level 6, when you throw your shield and do damage with it, you may spend 1 Ki to have it deflect to a 2nd target within 15' of the first target.

Completely Vibration Absorbent
Also at 6th level, when using your Deflect Missiles ability you may re-roll the d10, but in doing so you forego the option of returning the missile.

On Your Left!
At level 11, when an ally within half of your movement rate is hit by an attack, you may use your reaction to move to that ally and partially deflect the attack, momentarily granting the ally resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage. Requires shield. Movement will provoke Attacks of Opportunity.

The End of the Line
At level 17, the range of your shield increases to 50/100. When you throw your shield it is empowered with Lightning Bolt, dealing 2d6 damage to all creatures along its entire path. You may spend up to 4 additional Ki, damage increasing by 2d6 for each point spent.

I really wish people would use the Homebrew tag when creating threads like this. Otherwise I thought it might have been something WoTC released and got my hopes up.

*Edit* and this isn't directed at you solely. It seems to be happening a lot more now, and there's a few on the front page alone. Just the other day Yunru made a thread like this and intentionally left off the homebrew tag because he said he wanted more views. I just find that sort of thing really irritating.

Not bad. You need weapon stats for a shield, though. I'm assuming you can attack with it and still gain the AC bonus?

It's a "Monk Weapon", so it has stats. And, yes, the idea is that you still get the AC bonus. That's basically your level 3 bonus.

Excellent suggestion, and done.

Sorry, I'm confused, where are the stats for "Monk Weapon"? I haven't played a Monk, but I was reasonably sure a Monk Weapon was any simple melee weapon that wasn't two-handed (plus shortswords).

When wielding a Monk Weapon you can opt to do your martial arts damage in lieu of the weapon's own damage. So for a shield (since it doesn't have its own damage) it would just be martial arts damage. 1d4 at level 3. So, yeah, slight damage loss when you take this at level 3.

Thanks, and I didn't mean to pick on you specifically.

On topic, I find the idea of a Captain America Monk intriguing. I have no idea if those abilities are balanced or not (since I've never really cared about DPR or minor differences in values), but I like the idea of using ki to power Cap's shield abilities.

Maybe call it a "defender monk" or "protector monk"? I get the Avenger tag ( :) ), but it seems more like a protection type class than avenging.

Yeah, after posting I thought "Way of the Defender" might be better. Or Protector.

Or how about "Way of the Righteous Shield"?

The problem is that you can set the Homebrew tag when you create the thread, but it will not be applied. You have to go back and edit your post to get it to stick. I've experienced this every time I post a Homebrew idea.
