D&D 5E New D&D Survey

Not sure how to answer here. I'd love to see some East Asian inspired fantasy, but feudal Japan has been done to death.

I found it a pretty depressing survey TBH. Very much thinking inside the campaign boxes that were established for D&D decades ago!

It was a survey designed by longtime fans for longtime fans. Most people new to D&D would find very little to engage with.

Sorry, not buying this one bit. As a longtime fan I wasn't all too excited about those options, but the new players I talked to thought they sounded from cool to amazing. Since the survey asked all those questions about player's history and how long they've been playing they will have the data though, while we can just speculate at this point.

What makes you think most new players wouldn't be interested in those themes while older players would?

Yes to Dark Sun and a write-in for Mystara.

Only interested in a D&D PC game.

No choice to say I played the D&D boxed sets of B/X BECMI. Seems intentional considering Mystara doesn't exist, either.

Yes to Dark Sun adventures and Greece/Rome. Mild interest in Spelljammer, Planescape, and Vikings.

I hope they post the findings in a few months' time. They usually do, but if they say something like "64% want X" then we'll all start guessing when, not if, they are going to bring out a book for X and it won't be a surprise when it comes.

Personally, I showed only mild interest in any of the settings because I play homebrew campaigns and always have. I did say I was planning to buy Xanathar's though, so that will make them happy.

Nice to see a 70+ age bracket to tick. There may not be many of us but our opinions are the only ones that matter

I was a bit taken aback by the video game, movies etc questions. Good successful shows/movies aren't made via good market research, but via good writing, directing etc...

I put very interested in Dark Sun, mildly interested in Dragonlance, interested in Greyhawk, and not at all interested in Eberron, Planescape, or Spacejammer.

For the other settings, I put not interested in Large City-state and interested in all of the others.

The questions had nothing to do with writing or direction. They were just gauging interest.

A feudal Japan-influenced Dragonlance would be a very interesting concept if you ask me . . .

My write-in for the setting question was Dawn War / Nentir Vale. I was mildly interested in Eberron, and mildly disinterested in pretty much all the rest. While I'd like to see game mechanics for the special parts of all those settings appear in a book, I have no need/desire to get their geographical almanacs reprinted for the 3rd/4th/5th time. That's why I still own my old campaign books and use DMs Guild.
