D&D 4E 4E WotC Tools dead?

No word on whether this includes the Compendium? Or is it just the silverlight stuff?

They're refunding money, so not a good sign? I've managed to load VirtualBox+Windows downloaded from Microsoft and then load up the older programs, so it is possible to make it all work.

And as that's the only thing I'll be using Windows for...it shouldn't be a problem going forward.

I'm honestly surprised it was still running. I thought everyone had been trying to get the old builder to work to cover the loss of the online tools.

The old builder works great on a current windows rig, no fuss.

Doesn’t have the last couple books, IIRC, though.

Hey all, new to this forum but got the email last night that 4E character creator tools would be ending Dec 31, 2019. Any thoughts on where a 4E group could go for another character creator online?

They can't send WotC ninjas to take our books, but they can stop taking our money. ;)
I think it would be hard for someone to support it without Silverlight.
Support for Silverlight ended some time ago, almost as the decision to use Silverlight was made, really.

...but is still technically pirating, something that feels like less of an issue now that the on-line version is being taken away, I admit...

At this point they should really just release 4e into the wild.

SRD.

Toss the off-line builder to an open-source license so folks can fix it up.

There are some alternatives, like Hero Lab. Some of my players use off-brand character creators, because they couldn't keep DDI working and had to give up their subscriptions. They are not as pretty as the on-line DDI, nor as customizeable as the off-line (as I remember it being, that is, since my XP box died long ago), and they often leave out or cut off information (as did the DDI builder).

One of my players is just working off the books, too.
