I guess if you subject yourself to AL...

I won't play AL, so it's never been an issue for me.

I don't play official AL, but our table rule is "make DDAL legal characters".

Honestly, this "if you don't like it, don't use it" is a total canard, unless you happen to play with people who all share your preferences.

Even if/when I'm the DM, I'm not going to be a jerk and say, "No, you can't use that perfectly legal option."

So many Psionics threads right now, so now sure where to share this, but I guess this thread is good enough. lol

Crawford on Twitter today when asked about Psionics and Anti-Magic effects:

So is he saying Psionics is both magic and not-magic?

All characters must be DDAL legal does not equal, all DDAL legal characters are okay. You can still ban psionics and have them make DDAL legal PCs.

If you don't play with people who all share preferences, people, probably all of them, will be unhappy with parts of the game.

That's your choice. You can't expect the rest of us to conform to your personal choices. "But I won't tell people that they can't play a dual-rapier and hand-crossbow wielding Aarakokra Warlord/Psion." is not a good reason for the game not to include all of that.

That may be in reference to the Psionic Soul's ability to turn non-psionic spells into psionic powers with no VSM. That would likely be a psionic ability that is still magic.

No, I can't ban them. We are a group of friends who agreed on ground rules. I'm not the king.

Yes!!!!!

I'm going to archive this post, so that when I think "Does Max EVER have an opinion that isn't completely bizarre?" I can open this post and ease my mind.

Uh, yeah, it would be a terrible decision for them to not include psionics simply because Elfcrusher posted on Enworld saying he doesn't think psionics fit in a fantasy world.

WTF is your point?

I don't know what your friends are like, but if I went to my group which are also all friend and let them know that psionics suck so badly for me that they ruin my fun, they would agree to amend the rules so that I could enjoy the game.

Have you tried talking to them about it?

@Maxperson let me refresh your memory of my post that started us down this path:

Have to admit I lean this way, too.

D&D has an "...and the kitchen sink" aspect that I don't like.

No, psionics are not so painful that I can't put up with it. My opinion is that it doesn't really fit the genre, and I would like D&D more if they didn't try to shoehorn in every concept. That's all. Relax. My opinion is going to cost you neither the Psion nor the Warlord
