TV shows that improved on the source

Not sure if we finished season 2 of Westworld. Gave up on it.

Currently... The Umbrella Academy. More depth of characterization.

I'm currently watching season 1 and enjoying it a lot. I never read any of the comics though.

The Haunting of Hillhouse is also really good, but a strong departure from the original book it is loosely based on. I'd say it is better and more complex than the book.

I stopped watching season 3, its quite a swerve from the earlier seasons
I actually liked the Yul Brynner movie and I'm not sure if it and the series are even comparable. The series season 1 is a good story that uses the same tropes in a different direction.

I've only seen season 1, but I can tell you the show has a lot in common with the sequel film Futureworld. I enjoyed both movies.

On the original topic:

Hannibal. The movies were great, but the show was amazing. Haven't read the books.

MASH. Again, the movie was good, but the series was a lot more.

Sherlock Holmes. The books, being so early in their genre, don't all hold up. But there have been so many great adaptations, from Sherlock to Elementary to House.

Lol, I thought the topic of this thread was about shows that improved upon the source. Anything past the 1st Highlander movie most definitely doesn't qualify.

This would mean that I need to read a lot of books. I may watch a lot of crap, but I hardly read more than a golf magazine, or maybe a Drizzt book. I've seen shows like the Umbrella Academy, but never thought it was a book first.

Rewatched the first one last year. Hasn't aged that well.

I was 14 or so watching the show and I watched some of it ten or so years ago.
It was contemporary with Nirvana and the other Grunge hands not expecting much.

MASH is probably the clear and obvious answer for me. Even though the movie was good, the series was outstanding.

This may not be popular, but I'm gonna say The Magicians as well.
