Dragonlance Dragonlance or Mystara?

All else being equal I favor the setting where my players haven't read any novels I haven't.

Have you read the Mystara setting novels then? I found the dragonlord ones OK D&D novels but I remember the use of things like "The Dickens!" as a phrase jarring.

Maybe that shows a path forward for a DragonLance setting then. Personally I am finding the side stories in the Star Wars universe more interesting than the main story (except for episodes IV, V, & VI).

I's basically D&D's Star Wars. You can find corners to adventure in, but the central plot overshadows everything.

What is the central plot?

After an old Cataclysm, the Gods have abandoned the world, and also magical creatures such as Dragons are gone. The world is gritty and faithless. For the record, I like Kender fine. And Tasslehoff was a great character in both of the first trilogies and in a handful of short stories featuring him I read back in the day.
