I’d go with this, working on the theory that
Close (enough to see) - 3 miles is the distance most humans can see clearly
Local - 10 miles is about what the average person can walk without over exerting themselves.
Range: I’d be tempted to go one bigger with Range or Territory of 20-30 miles based on a) a Human on a forced march can do that in a day and b) an animals/monsters territory tends to range up to 10 miles around its lair - thats useful information if a Party is exploring a region and identify a Lair site.
Then Region for anything bigger

This involves some actual reasoning I had only kinda thought of when I suggested it, but it make so much sense I'm going to have to use it more, Especially for games that use Fronts.
Tales from the Floating Vagabond used to get creative with sizes. Guns were Gun, Big Gun, OMG That's A Big Gun, and Don't Point That Thing At My Planet, for instance. Melee skills incuded Swing Pointy Thing, Swing Pointy Thing With Panache, Hurt People, and Hurt People Badly.
With that in mind, I'd suggest for exploration "What's That?", "Let Me Fasten My Bootlaces" and "There'd Better Be Lunch Along The Way", and for encounters (in reverse order of proximity) "That's Close Enough", "I'm Warning You", and "Right, That's It!"
