D&D 5E Two more Classic Settings to go

I really have no desire for planescape to merge with spelljanmer. They really are two different games. If I want a pirate game in a boat I don’t want it in planescape. The settings really have little in common outside they are two methods to get from A to B. It seems simple to merge. But when I buy my planescape guide I don’t want 100 pages of spelljamming helm and ships. Would be great if they kept them separate

I'm still uncertain about Planescape. One reason WotC cancelled it back in the 90s was because they felt planar adventures should be part of core and not spun off into their own setting. During 3e, there was some amount of core material on the planes that built on Planescape. Even if they do go with Planescape, it's not likely to be presented as a separate setting but something connected directly to core. That shouldn't be a problem even with the Realms being the default now, since Toril was one of the more important worlds on the Material Plane in Planescape.

Though it's also possible a Planescape product could talk about ties to various Magic settings, given how planewalking is a thing in M:tG. That would make me laugh too, as TSR in its last days tried suing WotC over the terminology of planewalking. A M:tG/Planescape crossover would be a hilarious distant finale to that.

I don’t think they have. All the Tiamats aren’t even the same.
You would be incorrect, this is established explicitly in Hoard of the Dragon Queen, and Chris Perkins has said the same on several occasions. There is one Tiamat in the 5E D&D metasetting, who is also Takhasis.

In addition to the Turan you of Dragona statements, the DMG states that Takhasis is the name for Tiamat on Krynn in the description for the Dragonorb magic item, and there is the following still available onbthebD&D website from 2014:

"Meanwhile, both Bahamut and Tiamat appeared prominently in the Dragonlance Chronicles adventures (1984–1986) under the new names of Paladine and Takhisis. The last two Chronicles adventures even spotlighted the deities: in DL13 Dragons of Truth (1986) the Companions journey to the Glitterpalace of Paladine, while in DL14 Dragons of Triumph (1986) they invade the temple of Takhisis."

Tiamat is Eberron is definitely not the Tiamat of Forgotten Realms. They share little except a name. Tiamat in Eberron isn't even a god. And Bahamut might not even exist beyond a constellation.

And how can it be "definitively established" in a book that's not even about Dragonlance.

Vague and misleading, especially when weighed against the mountain of evidence that says they aren't the same. It is mainly pointing to a similar conceptual origin for the two.

1) They have different names
2) They have different home planes (Seven Heavens vs Dome of Creation, Nine Hells v Abyss)
3) They have different divine portfolios. (Check the back of the 5E PHB)
4) They have different divine levels. (Lesser Deity vs Greater Deity)
5) They have different holy symbols. (Silver Triangle v Dragon Head)
6) They have independent existences (Paladine becomes mortal, Bahamut doesn't).
7) Bahamut and Takhisis are dragon deities. Paladine and Takhisis are not - their "favoured creations" are elves and ogres respectively.

Shannon Appelcline is not a WoTC employee, he's not defining lore, he's merely restating that yes, the Platinum Dragon and Chromatic Dragon are the ultimate inspirations for the Krynnish pantheon leaders. Even the adventures here support that since Bahamut doesn't live in Glitterpalace.
