I'd love to hear a bit more about the VTT functionality.

A lot could be answered if you could walk us through an encounter where a 5E DM has NPC bandits ambush PCs as they walk through some ruins in a forest. What does the DM do at their keyboard, what do the players see, and what dothe players do on their keyboard and what do they and the DM see?

Will you have the monster and PC stats in your system? Will you have ways to import data from D&D Beyond? Can you roll and track initiative in the system? Can you limit the movement of a figure/token to the movement of the PC in the game stats? Can you restrict player token movement to only their turn/when the DM allows? Can you limit the view on players to the eyes of their figure? Thus, they'd only see what their PC sees?

How do you make this cost effective for a DM that has already spent a fortune on rule books, minis, etc...

It seems like this would very significantly increase the amount of prep required as compared to even normal VTTs, let alone minis/counters + battlemap, or TotM.

Is there anything about it which significantly counters increased prep times?

Hey, I'll try to explain each point, but if you have any other doubts, don't hesitate to comment again 😁

First the DM will have to prepare the map for the combat, this can be done before or during the session. If you do not have much time available, you can search for a ready-made map on our marketplace.

As this is a combat, master and players will enter "Combat mode", so actions will continue according to the initiative. In the case of D&D 5E, the system will handle this automatically. After the launch of the initiative is finished, the actual combat can continue. The master can make the miniatures of the enemies he has previously placed on the map visible, or drag them directly from the menu.

Each player during his turn may move his own miniature and/or summons (more generally any token assigned to him), the movement will not be limited, but a counter will be scaled (the player's maximum movement can be set in his character sheet) each time a movement is made, so that the user knows that he has reached his limit. His available actions (Action, Bonus Action and Reaction) will also be marked. The character will be able to attack enemies by selecting the type of attack (including spells) in a few clicks (various aids will be provided to understand the range of the attack, so as to be sure of hitting the target). It would take a lot to explain the entire fight, but I think I have given you an idea of how it will unfold anyway.

By providing support in DnD 5E, you no longer need to remember all the things and/or do the various calculations in your head!
While for everything that will not be included in 5E, we will provide basic support for handling combat and everything else. However, all this will be explained in more detail with the KS video and in the campaign itself.

D&D Beyond will be integrated, but by not providing an official API everything could suddenly change (although we don't foresee any major changes to their API for the time being)

we have two main features to make map creation much faster (we know how little time a master has). Automatic room generation, by choosing a theme (tavern, dungeon, etc) you will be able to create one or more rooms full of objects (similar to DA). Marketplace, where you can download maps created by other players, thus having entire detailed maps available in a few moments
