maybe not...but is that the same answer to the question of 'do we need old races that aren't in the current edition?'Do we need new races?

And I’m not a fan of doing anything for no other reason than that it used to be done that way. Half-elves and half-orcs should either stand on their own merit or sit down.Legacy/Grandfather clause. I drop both in my own, but as you remember, I'm not a fan of removal of things the game released with.
They have. They do, to the people who played them. And I’m not a fan of doing anything for no other reason than that it used to be done that way. Half-elves and half-orcs should either stand on their own merit or sit down.
Those people can still play them. They have. They do, to the people who played them.
i think they could really get alot of mileage out of just adding a half-species template alongside every species writeup, with an ammendum of 'if you ever get the same trait from both halves you get to pick one additional trait from one of the base species statblocks, with GM's approval which'Does it? I would leave that as setting specific. I dont see any reason at all why we need Half-Dwarf/Half-Dragon, that only gets traits from one or the other.
If a setting has need of it, let them provide the option, like Eberron. I had a feeling they would drop the half-elf/orc, but making a grab bag species set ala custom race from tasha's is just not it for me at all.

But, they are in the new hotness. As are all other species combinations. As much as this is true, we both know that being in the 'new hotness' officially adds something.

We hadn’t previously established a standard for adequacy. Besides which, our key point of contention here is why human/elf and human/orc hybrids should be held to a different standard of adequacy than all other hybrid combinations. I contend that they should not.Which has the latest version? The last one I saw was inadequate.
If it's the same edition, there shouldn't be something you can do in one printing that you can't in another. Those people can still play them.
