The new deal is for Sony Pictures and Marvel to share rights, with Sony continuing to own and distribute solo Spider-Man films (including Spiderman supporting characters/Rogues), Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures distributing films where Spiderman appears with other Marvel characters (like Dr Strange)Doesn't Sony still own the movie rights to Spider-Man? Even though he's in the MCU, don't they need Sony's approval to put him in their movies still, or am I wrong?
The catch for Sony is that Disney gets to have creative input and % share ifSony use live action Spiderman AND theres a 5 year lapse time if they dont produce a movie - which is why we are getting all these Not-Spiderman 'Villain' movies, so Sony can keep milking the asset without having to pay out to Disney.
