D&D 5E 2024 Monster Manual has better lore than 2014 Monster Manual

On DDB that is true and I think unfortunate. But we must remember those books (and most 5e books) had a much longer run than most books outside the core books of previous editions. There area a lot out in the wild. Heck I can still get both on Amazon!

The near $100 per book easily excludes them for many new player hence my caveat in my initial post about them being gone.

I have no interest in further discussing things already addressed, explained and set aside, it is tedious and far from fruitful debate.

I only have the 14 monster stuff. Can someone post a sample monster’s MM lore from both versions so we can compare and contrast?

I know, I know, it won’t be the duergar or orc.

Aarakocra and aboleth could be compared or other things that are in both though would be nice to see side by side.

Concise lore can still be evocative and good but overall I like more lore in my core monsters. I want good lore I can use, not just stat blocks and good art. 2e was generally a high point here with things like the Ravenloft and Outer Planes monstrous compendium appendices standing out in my memory (I used my 1e MMs and FF through the 2e era so I did not get the core 2e monster compendium or the monstrous manual until much later, though I really liked them from skims of friends’ copies).
