In real life, Dire Wolves, resurrected from the dead

"Species" is rather like "sex" - it is presented in a very simple way to laymen, but the actuality is not straightforward.
Still relatively straightforward biologically. Just two yes or no check boxes rather that one this or that checkbox. Maybe add a "can change?" checkbox for each of them. That's what, 16 options.

(Unless you're talking about fungal mating strains, but it's arguable whether or not those fit the definition of sexes since the gametes have the same overall morphology)

In a way, a biological scientific standpoint is simpler because it cuts away all the extra baggage that people think is part of sex but isn't.

I would be in favor of bringing back Neanderthals, but it might put that spokesman for Geiko out of business.

Whatever happened to Dolly the cloned sheep? Apparently she lived out her life in the cloning place in Scotland where she was born/made and had 6 babies and died in 2003 at half the normal age for sheep to die, but had severe arthritis and was put down. She was born in 1996. I feel like we should have something cool by now like people. But, I guess we never went back to the moon or to Mars by now either.

I just want to go on record saying that I think this is bad. Those poor animals are going to end up in zoos, at best, and so will whatever species are ressurected next. Ecologically, you can't reintroduce animals that have been extinct for 10000 years and expect good results.

Yeah, there is no business model for this. This is a play for VC money and, ultimately, getting bought out by a more serious biomedical company that will do something that people will shell out money for, like medical cures or curing baldness, etc.

Even if they could "bring back" the woolly mammoth, they're not going to be releasing them into the wilds of Canada or Siberia, and they're definitely not releasing a super-sized wolf in the American West, where farmers are already trying to get rid of the relatively few wolves that are back in the wild.

I'm not sure I want the worst people in the world cloning themselves. And they will 100% be the first people in line.
