Penguin Random House has announced The Feywild Job, a new D&D novel written by World Fantasy Award and Nebula-winning writer CL Polk. The new book is a romantasy novel, a popular and wildly growing book genre. The book features a rogue tasked with stealing a gem called "The Kiss of Enduring Love" and is teamed up with their ex-lover, a bard. The twist to the novel is that the rogue has a magical pact granting them powers in exchange for never falling in love.

The new novel is written by CL Polk, a writer with serious bonafides in the fantasy community. Polk's debut novel Witchmark won the World Fantasy Award in 2019 and their 2022 novella Even Though I Knew The End won the Nebula Award for Best Novella that year. Based on their website, this appears to be Polk's first foray into licensed media.

Below is the full description for The Feywild Job. The book will be released on June 30, 2026.

Sparks fly when bitter exes are forced to team up for an elaborate Feywild heist, in this cozy fantasy romance by the bestselling author of the Kingston Cycle and Even Though I Knew the End.
Saeldian has sworn never to fall in love. That oath isn’t just a personal promise, but rather a magical pact, granting them powerful abilities. The only catch? They must never give their heart away—a deal that Saeldian is perfectly content with. They’ve seen firsthand how messy love can get.

Saeldian prefers their no-strings-attached life as a con artist, pulling off heists and leaving a trail of broken hearts behind them. But when a grift goes horribly wrong, they catch the eye of a mysterious patron with a job offer they can’t refuse.

The mission? Steal a gem called “The Kiss of Enduring Love” and return it to the Feywild. Simple enough, until Saeldian discovers their ex-partner, Kell—a charming bard—is part of the team.
The last time Saeldian saw Kell, things hardly ended on good terms. A kiss became a betrayal, leaving Kell hurt and confused for almost a decade. But Kell can’t just walk away—not when this job might finally be his ticket back to the Feywild.

Forced to work together again, their adventure takes them from high-society parties to Feywild couple’s therapy. But as Saeldian and Kell rekindle their chemistry, they realize the gem is much more than a fey bauble, and their simple heist has summoned powerful enemies. . . .

So why not a D&D cozy fantasy game book? Maybe with some rules support or maybe with just some guidelines and examples.

The novel "Legends & Lattes", which is sort of the prime example of "cozy fantasy" is practically set in a D&D fantasy world. The main character is a former adventurer who is a bit burnt out on delving dungeons and fighting evil sorcerers and so retires from adventuring and opens a coffee shop. I don't know if I need rules for this, but I'd love a game book detailing how to run cozy D&D games. And the book, Legends & Lattes, has combat, it has intrigue and conflict, but the primary focus is on the main character's journey recovering from her traumatic former profession and finding purpose and romance.
I really want this.

I think Strix has a decent start and 2024/ToV/A5e all have better social encounter rules than 2014. There's definitely some space for it. With the Green Ronin (Blue Rose) people and Baldree (Legends & Lattes) being physically close to Renton the ease in experimentation is obvious.

It happens, although bullying leading to suicide is more common
It's all part of the same thing. School systems that have high numbers of school counselors -- the numbers that experts actually suggest, in other words -- show much lower rates of suicide and bullying (and, conveniently, higher rates of attendance, graduation, college attendance and college graduation).

It's not even a subtle correlation. Find a school district with low bullying rates or low rates of suicidal ideation, and they have more counselors.

Getting people to pay for it, though, is the challenge.
There are a lot more attempted murders that never get reported.
This feels like a Tiktok or true crime book "fact."

I felt the bullying was very much downplayed from the reality. “Cosy” bullying, to try and keep the thread on topic.
I think there was a wide regional variation on how D&D was stigmatized (at a time that it was incredibly successful commercially). What was shown in season one through four of the show was about right for me. I attended middle school and high school at the same time as the kids on the show.

It's good to see growth in the fantasy genre that's not Harry Potter and Twilight.
Before Harry Potter, it was Game of Thrones and before that it was Wheel of Time. The publishing industry bravely follows whatever is succeeding until something else breaks out for them to chase. Sometimes it's stuff people like -- very few people on this board complain about the chokehold that GoT or WoT used to have on fantasy fiction -- sometimes it's not. But something new is always on the way in a few years.

I believe it's a side character from one of the previous novels actually choosing to leave the cozy stuff behind and go adventuring, and everyone else having to accept that what's good for one person doesn't necessarily work for someone else.
I just started it last night because this thread reminded me it exists, and it does appear to be that! And yeah these books are effectively already D&D books, the official version makes so much sense.

Well, go and enjoy the four hour long video

I don't watch 4 hour videos on people reviewing a hotel. I can read a paragraph and get the information more efficiently.
It comes up in the video when talking about how influencers say the names of rides compared to normal people and that calling it "The Rise of the Resistance" makes you seem insincere and untrustworthy as a source of information about the ride. And the hotel, in this case.
You brought up the Star Wars hotel I didn't. If you think I'm insincere because I choose to label rides differently than you than that's on you and not my problem. Have you talked to people in the real world instead of just watching Youtube videos about them? Because I place very low value on Youtuber influencers unless their academics talking in their field. I'm not watching a youtuber for 4 hours. I can get a lot done in that amount of time.

You decided to bring it up in this thread like it was a bragging point out of the absolute blue. You know that's a hot button topic

Even from day one orcs weren't always chaotic evil, and the edition that did had them as "Often", not "Always".

Orcs were CHAOTIC from Day 1. Then in AD&D they became Lawful Evil, and 3rd edition made them Chaotic Evil. They did not evolve to Chaotic Evil for 3 editions. You are correct on that.

I brought it up when discussing the 2024 ruleset because I think getting rid of classic races like Half Elf and Half orc is mind boggling. It makes no sense. So Why would I keep Orc when Half orc works better for my campaign? You decided to tell me how wrong I was, like I was naming a ride with its... name. Don't paint me like I'm the one with the issue. You've been on the attack about this.

And well, as someone else who's read those very same things, nah, they're quite compelling and onto something actually, especially with D&D deciding to slap 'guess they're just american indians and mongolians now' onto orcs. I genuinely question your reading of it if you can honestly say 'they're not racially coded!' after looking at that book. Like, you don't put 'Gnollistan' in a book and tell me that's not

I literally said Thar was a mistake. I don't see the racial coding anywhere else. I see pig faces and greenskins. Game Constructs and monsters. When I want to use nuance in morality I can use elves dwarves or humans. Orcs are not representative of any people or culture on earth. But if you look really hard you'll find problems if you want to. Chick Traks made up problems too.

Your view isn't what people see orcs as for the longest time, the green guys have more than taken over what orcs are, and even people who use the pig orcs tend towards them as people

You tend to think you know what lots of people think. I know way more people that really don't think the AESTHETIC of wanting evil races is something to even care about. Most people don't care. I'm just not going to change the way I've used orcs because some people on the internet don't like it. I've literally met nobody in real life that cares. Its all online. [/quote]
There was no 'modern Satanic panic'.

The railing about the aesthetics of inherently evil races is definitely a panic. Its an aesthetic that works.
Doesn't hide the fact its odd you haven't heard of, y'know. Umamusume.,

Since I'm not hiding the fact I don't know the chibi game who the hell cares.

You decided to go on this weird side tangent. And cool, never heard of them.

Come of it. YOU made something of the fact I said I play PC and COnsole games because you made a snyde remark of phones in relation to Table top gaming aesthetics. If I made a weird tangent you took it an ran with it I don't know so maybe you can show off your uber gamer cred? And that your on the up and up about following Youtube influencers?

And yeah, I did!

I am happy I provide a place for you to tout your cred then! Again, I only ever played Warcraft as a wargame never the MMO. I was never part of MMO culture so there is no need to plaster lessons about it all over the place.
And, no, I do think I know what I'm talking about. People call it Bluesky. They don't call it "The Blue Sky Platform". It makes you sound like a corporate shill. Don't know if that's the intention, but that's the result.

To YOU that's the result. Its a platform. I'm sure it did not cause confusion. Not sure how I can be insincere about saying I find the complaints of Blusky funny. You went off on something strange. Enough that you wrote paragraphs about the greatness of random youtube influencers that you seem to REALLY care about. I don't rely on youtube to tell me how people act. I don't care what Jenny Nicols thinks about anything. I don't get my information from youtubers.

I'm sorry just. You don't know umas? You don't know Umamusume: Pretty Derby, the roguelike taking the internet by storm? The one just about every streamer has played recently? You know, that Umamusume, where the horse girls are called umas? You... Really aren't connected to the gaming sphere, huh? The game was plastered all over Steam's front page not that long ago. Its not an obscure game.

No I didn't know it past an advert. I don't really spend alot of communication time on the internet outside of Website Forums. I said I play games on Consoles, PCs, and coach an Esports team. Then you went NUTS telling me I didn't know games I literally wouldn't play, ever. I didn't say I was connected to the gaming sphere in the first place so I don't know how you conjure this stuff.
Why would your first thought be 'some random university' when I'm talking about mobile games? Seriously? Go and figure out how to get Gold Ship to train for once
Because UMASS coordinates a lot of Esports gatherings on the eastern coast of the UNited States. (Oh was I insincere when I said the Eastern Coast instead of Eastcoast. I apologize) That's my sphere. The one I care about.
Why do you think I have a VAGUE care about mobile games when I clearly stated several times I don't play the, talk about them, or care about them. I couldn't even deal with ELDER SCROLLS Blades because of all the repetitive game play. Chibi anime girls aren't going to get me to play a game in a genre I care nothing about. Seriously I have no care for whatever gold ship is. Now that you told me what Unanusume is, I am glad that the time I discovered it was in a time when I am responding to forums when I'm not productive anyway. Because now that I know about it, I can use it as an example of games I ignore. I no longer need to use a genre I can refer to it by name. Thank you for that. This game would not vaguely entertain me.

Tell whoever's opinions you're regurgitating, then, that Bluesky is pretty much ordinary people and the lefties are on Spoutible.
Disclaimer: All Opinions From This Account Are From The Account Author And No Other.

Then Spoutible is probably not making unimportant complaints about Dungeons and Dragons then. They are probably concerned about things that matter more and effect populations. Not just aesthetics of a game.

Ahem. Just to be clear…

I lived through the 70/80 feral generation times. The accuracy of stranger things was rather disturbing. So was how rpg gamers were seen.

Apologies, but please enjoy the current age where you can think the behaviors are unrealistic. Villainy in real life is often far more two dimensional than you would think. At least in my experience.
But at least at those times kids could get away from the bullying if they had a good family life. Now thanks to Social Media that rule kids lives they can't even escape the bullying at home. It follows them everywhere. Internet was wonderful before Social Media ruined it.
