Did it bother you?
Not as such. It's not that I'm offended, it's that I feel that it cheapens an otherwise admirable adaptation.

I saw the interview with the show runners who said "we're dumping on Sir Arlan in this episode so we wanted to give him something he could be respected for." And that's what you pick? When Dunk's values as taught by Sir Arlan are Arlan's ultimate legacy?

I dunno. It’s just a momentary joke. I haven’t read the books so maybe that’s the difference.

It's sort of like the scene from the first episode to me, in that it isn't offensive so much as dumb and unnecessary.

Is it any dumber or more unnecessary than GoT doing a large portion of its exposition with bare-chested young women in the background of the shot, so that viewers pay attention, or HoD giving us multiple long, lingering scenes of women dying in childbirth?

If Knight of the 7 Kingdoms wants to indulge in a single scene of juvenile humor every episode, I think that's pretty harmless.

If you edited every show or movie down to what is strictly necessary, they'd all be pretty short and perfunctory. As for "dumb"? I figure they knew what they were doing.

If a third episode opens this way I think I will be very annoyed at that point though.

Anyway the main problem that is that it was already the thing of Podrick Payne. Did a second character need the same gimmick?
