WotC Why WotC SHOULD Make A New Setting

I don't care for campaign length adventures or splatbooks, so there isn't much else WotC could put out besides a setting that WOULD excite me.
ok, so new setting vs part of an existing setting that wasn’t described yet, like another continent / region?

But remember this thread is in direct response to a discussion by Slyflourish about settings from WotC.
I remember, I would be somewhat curious about what they put out, but not moreso than from another publisher.

I don’t see much difference between what Paizo puts out for Golarion or Kobold Press for Midgard compared to WotC for FR.

They might not have the same budget, but when it comes to the end result that difference is not that visible

This is kind of what I'm saying.

Wizards should have a budget that blows everything out of the water. So let's see them make something with that budget.

It's all academic for me anyway but I'm surprised people don't get it.

I have to believe folks at WotC, in both the 5E and 5.5 eras, know what else is out there. But outside of Heroes of the Borderlands, I suspect every time someone says "let's really go for it on production quality," someone busts into the room with talk about keeping costs down/profit high.

It is weird that the nicest quality RPG books on my shelves are from much, much smaller companies, but so it goes.

Why should WotC make a new setting when they could bring back the old ones?
IMO because they are old ones, not to say they're past using but i think adding some metaphorical new blood to the franchise would be a good idea, a new setting designed to fit new DnD, the fresh slate that allows them to build things up from the ground, properly cohesively incorporating all the species and classes and such of 5.5 into a greater whole that feels like it fits together rather than have these floating bits of content and lore that feel disconnected from or crowbarred into those existing settings, and doesn't have multiple editions worth of lore buildup to work through for those that want to get into it,

ok, sure, let them try. I doubt they will take the risk and do something ‘out there’ but I agree it would be interesting to see them take the swing and see where it lands

I liked that about MCDM’s Crack the Sun, it is not just a rehash of what everyone else is doing

I like how Daggerheart did its mini settings in the book. I'd like a book of that - all new settings & genres - given a 5-10 page treatment with a "world" overview map and local map to get things started. The Book of Worlds as it were. If any of the settings become well-liked, then they can do a full-blown book just on it.

Radiant kinda did that, but something about the presentation just made me gloss over it - maybe it was the Radiant Citadel itself, "forcing" all the mini-worlds to be linked together.

Gawds I hated Taladas...

I don't know how differently i can say it: as a lifelong fan of D&D, I LIKE it when there is something official from D&D that gets me excited. That is the whole motivation.
