I'm looking to get a bunch of mounted riders miniatures for a large-scale battle event I have coming up, anyone know where I can pick some up cheaply? Mounted figures is one thing that the pre-painted D&D minis have been sorely lacking in (there is one, but he's a rare). Anyway, all help, suggestions, etc is appreciated! Thanks!

If you don't mind using them unpainted, or painting them yourself, the Two Towers boxed set game (Games Workshop) contains a fair number of mounted plastic minatures. They're "true 28mm" scale, so look a bit small compared to Reaper and D&D minis.
They also need to be glued together.
But its your best bet for something approximating cheap. At $45 for the box, you get 12 riders and a 20 uruk hai too. That's 3.75 each for the riders, assuming you threw the rest of the box away.
There is a set with just the rider minis, but its $25 for 6, which is 4.16 each. Sometimes you can find them at a discount though (Hard nowadays with GWs internet sales policies)

mageknight mounts from players at your FLGS/ebay should work for real cheap.
Dollar stores /trift stores / Toys R Us's animal planet toys
Find a friend in the "20 something" age bracket and ask if he has a copy of "battlemasters" or try ebay
the angelfire dire wolverines make real good lotr wargs. Buck a pop on ebay can be found if you look.
Then take a bolwlegged D&D fig, pop it onto a mount

I have a box full of battle masters minis, and can put together a dozen riders easily if you like the style of the minis. Ill try and get a pic of the choices we have and see how many I can manage. (Unpainted, or partially painted of course)
