Heraldry Drawing

Does anyone know of a very easy program for designing shields or heraldry. Is there a create your own heraldry site out there somewhere.

I was looking at the mock ups from Dragon mag #275 and was wondering how they were done.

Even better, is there someone out there that can do this stuff :)=

Any help in this regard would be great. Cheers.

Blazons

You could visit the HârnForum (www.lythia.com/forum/) and ask there. I can’t produce them myself, but this is an example of the blazon of a Baron.

There are several posters who, if you ask real nice, may produce something to order for you. Though being Hârn fans we're likely to be pedantic about the choice of colours and metals.

Bryan Blumklotz does some very nice heraldry for Greyhawk. Check out The World of Greyhawk Heraldry Page and this thread on Canonfire. He writes the following:

PROCESS:
I have a library of 3,500+ vector .WMF images from Armorial Gold (AG). From this library I can recreate many of the heraldic shields. Some shields require custom work by me (either whole cloth or altering images from the AG library).
AG’s products can be found here: http://www.heraldryclipart.com/

I start in Adobe Illustrator 9.0 sizing and layering the images I need (or, if necessary altering or creating them). Once the image has been put together and colorized I save it as a .PSD file and open it up in Adobe Fireworks MX making both a .PNG and .GIF file of it.

I then publish the emblazon with accompanying text in Adobe Dreamweaver MX.

Thanks people I will check these out.

Just to be clear - I really want to be able to produce anything, especially non-traditional stuff. (Like the article in the Dragon mag I pointed out, which preceeded a technical heraldry article I might add).

I could easily draw most of these, but I was just wondering whether there is an easy to use way of doing things on computer.

Blazon was easy, but I wasn’t thrilled with the results. I haven’t found anything better for me than just firing up OpenOffice’s drawing layer.

I just wish I had a really good set of vector versions of common heraldric animals and things. I do fine on the simple geometric stuff, but drawing a griffin rampant would take me quite a while.
