D&D 3E/3.5 [Kulan] The Lands of Harqual (Updated: Feb 3/2022)

Beyond the Walls
Baron Micheil Vohan: Baron of Lenna
Baroness Aileen Liddane: Baroness of Tanærit and Commander of the Order of the Griffin (Church of Ahamudia)
Donella of Edan: Town Mistress of Edan
“Hillstrider” Kaergaer Herljanvar: Gnome-King of Bitran
Baroness Arrana Paesson: Baroness of Halonnan
Stanko Yoanova: Town Master of Silvinæn
Lord Derin Owon: Town Master of Joerid
Lady Ishka: Ruler of Delawyr
Lord Uilleam Maar: Ruler of Ceran
Lady Innes Abrehan: Ruler of Rulad
Lord Angus Xanthos: Ruler of Khilman
Lord Logan Zale: Ruler of Særol
Gilurgal Rockshield: Town Master of Færnol

The kingdom, beyond the walls of Eberal, nearly fell into anarchy after The Transformation. Many people were either left behind or forgotten completely. The war that followed against the Empire of Swords did not help matters either. The most prominent person not teleported (or duplicated) to the World of Kulan was Lady Malvina Itol. This completely broke apart Clan Itol as those that were teleported to Harqual tried to kill each other. The halls of Castle Itol quickly became stained in blood, and it is believed that only a few of the clan members survived. If there are Itols left, they keep to themselves.

Note: Castle Itol is rumored to be haunted by the souls of the murdered members of the clan. Only foolish adventurers dare walk its halls now.

Clan Vohan was hard hit as well. The old baron died in the war against the Imperials along with half the men of the clan. The son of the previous baron, Micheil, now leads the Clan Vohan. Aileen Liddane is now the Baroness of Tanærit and the commander of the Order of the Griffin. The former gnome-king of Bitran was lost during the war, but his eldest son, Kaergaer Herljanvar, has taken control of kingship. Tragically, Lady Innes Abrehan of Rulad lost her husband in the war, but she has remained loyal and vigilant to her people.

It seems that Clan Seona has been “lost to the mists of time.” For not only did Ronalda of Zirik and Mistress Seona disappear during The Transformation, but also most Ahamudians only remember them as images from a dream. A local hero named Derin Owon, who brought honor to his family in the war, is now the Town Master of Joerid. It is rumored that he and Lady Ishka, the new ruler in Delawyr, may marry. This would combine the two towns into an official barony. The halfling named Stanko Yoanova became the new Town Master of Silvinæn after Lady Primitiva took the mantle of Minister of Trade and moved to Eberal.

During the war, The Royals had to deal with several internal threats as well as the invasion by the Empire of Swords. There was the machinations of Lord Tam Zirik, but that was nothing compared to what King Khalen discovered about Clan Sarahnsan. Lord Ùisdean Sarahnsan was a Nosferatu vampire, and King Khalen had the creature hunted down and destroyed. The Sarahnsan Estate has been abandoned ever since as the undead lord's former subjects fled after its destruction. There are still members of Clan Sarahnsan in Ahamudia, but they have fallen on hard times as no one trusts them.

The Fall and Rebirth of Loghan Halonnan
The former Baron of the City of Halonnan troubled life nearly came to an end due to the events of The Transformation. His bitterness regarding losing Ahdina to Lord Dann Khilman soon became horrible guilt and anguish after Dann was killed defending Ahamudia. Loghan witnessed firsthand how the death of her husband nearly destroyed her, and it broke his heart.

He pleaded to the Gods of Ahamudia but they would not forgive him or return Dann back to life. Broken in spirit and without his faith, Loghan through himself form the walls of the city named after his clan.

His half-broken body was brought to Eberal where every cleric worked tirelessly to save his life When King Khalen appeared at his bedside while he laid dying, Loghan confessed his anger and sorrow and begged the king to forgive him.

“Pardon my hated, my great king! I beg your forgiveness for my cold heart and shallow soul. The Gods have abandoned me and your love is the only immortality I will ever need now!”

The King was deeply moved by the dying man's words, and he gave his forgiveness for the man's sins and worries freely. He insisted that the Baron be given the best care, “no matter what the price to paid.”

The King's words lifted the Baron's heart and spirit, and he rejoiced for all to hear. “Today I have a brother and father as well as a King!”

No one gave the man any hope to live. The clergy of the churches could not heal his wounds as the Gods of Ahamudia did indeed forsake him; however, Loghan Halonnan would survive due the intervention of the New Gods. As the war against the Empire of Swords progressed, Ahamudia found many allies to help defend its borders against the Imperials.

This included a group of sky knights — elite paladins — from the distant island Kingdom of Navirosov. These powerful holy warriors tended to the fallen Baron and taught him the ways of the New Gods. With there help, he healed quickly in body and spirit. He would lead a combined army of mixed elves, Bitran gnomes and dwarves, sky rider paladins, and local militia northwest into the lands of the Sword Imperium to deal with the Imperials and their vicious Emperor.

“I’m going to gut this fat, small-minded Emperor for what he’s done to our people. Here we are, strangers in a new land, and all he wants to do is conquer us. I’m not going to have this little toad for a neighbor.”

He leads this Northern Army to victory and witnesses firsthand the power of the New Gods when an Avatar of Cronn appears on the battlefield along with an army of celestials to protect the mortals from a horde of demons unleashed by the Last Emperor and his demonic-worshiping minions.

Loghan becomes the first of his people to convert to the worship of the New Gods as a result, and he chooses Cronn as his patron deity. He is both a cleric and a holy warrior (sentinel class from Dragon Magazine), and is the spiritual leader of the New Gods in the Kingdom of Ahamudia. He no longer trusts the Gods of his homeland, but he will not persecute its faithful members.

His marriage to Ahdina was her idea (he did not pursue her) as she quickly fell in love with the man he became while defending their new home. He now rules Ahamudia by her side as her equal and has adopted her two children. However, he insisted they keep their father's name as a tribute to a man who was better than he.

This small PDF file lists all the different characters for the Kingdom of Ahamudia as well as their levels and original names from the Mystara campaign setting. It also includes one unique character that I've added to the region. It will be added to as needed.

Baroness Arrana Paesson rules over the City of Halonnan; however, she rarely makes important decisions without consulting The Royals first. King Loghan makes her nervous, and she worries about offending him. In truth, he respects her ability to lead, which is why he pushed for her to become the next ruler of Halonnan.

Btw...

For the City of Halonnan (i.e. Kelvin) I want more characters for the city, but I couldn't find too many on Pandius.com. I'm going to look for more there, but what I would like is NPCs for the city from anyone who has played in a Karameikos / Known World campaign.

So, if you have an old Karameikos character, from Kelvin, that you'd like to share then feel free to posdt it here. I don't need a huge history and don't be suprised if I modify it for my own purposes.

Anyway, back to work. Silvinæn is coming up next.

The word "Bitran" is the collective name given to the dwarves and gnomes that were brought to Kulan from the world known as Maran (my Dark World campaign setting). While these newcomers to Kulan are distinctively two different races, they are considered, in fact, one people regardless of race.

The Bitran come from an underground city in the Rilous Mountains, which is simply called the City of Bitran. It is a strange place to outsiders filled with strange magical gadgets and weaponry. The Bitran have knowledge in something they call Black Thunder (similar to the smokepowder made in the Ferinmal Homeland). This substance is nearly unheard of beyond the borders of the Kingdom of Ahamudia. (The Bitran do not created hand-held firearms, but they do have cannons protecting the City of Bitran.)

Both races are distinctive in appearance from the native dwarven and gnomish races of Harqual in that their skin is either burnished bronze to pitch black in color. Their hair is always fiery red in color and their eyes are as black as coal. Some believe they have been infused with the very magic that courses through their forges. The Bitran wear tough leather garments with studded iron rivets embedded on the outside (masterwork studded leather armor).
