Free Bazaar Map! What thoughts do YOU have?

Here's a free map! Feel free to respond with other maps or develop the key to this one, if you're one of the creative sort. I envision the bazaar as being in a Conanesque sword and sorcery kind of city setting...

Dang that's a beautiful map!

How's this:

Rajib Shaheen, Gem Merchant male half-elf Adp3: CR 2; Size M (5 ft., 6 in. tall); HD 3d6; hp 16; Init +1 (+1 Dex); Spd 30 ft.; AC 11 (+1 Dex); Attack +2 melee, or +2 ranged; SV Fort +1, Ref +2, Will +6; AL N; Str 12, Dex 13, Con 10, Int 14, Wis 16, Cha 12. Languages Spoken: Common, Dwarven, Elven, Goblin, Draconic.
Skill points: Adp 24
Skills and feats: Concentration +3, Craft +6, Diplomacy +2, Hide +1, Knowledge (religion) +6, Listen +4, Move silently +1, Profession +9, Scry +5, Search +3, Speak language +1, Spot +4; Spell Penetration, Dodge.

Rajib has the finest selection of Gems in the Bazaar. Indeed he has gems that are quite rare, in addition to the more common ones. One can purchase rough or polished gems from Rajib, and he will even facet gems to order, though his prices are steep. In fact, there is a 1d12 chance that any gem one purchases from Rajib will have some sort of minor magical property, and a 1d100 chance that he will have a gem with greater magical properties. Although he has been asked many times how an unassuming soul such as himself manages to procure such an unparalleled selection, Rajib merely smiles and murmurs about trade secrets.

The fact is, Rajib is more than a simple gem merchant. He has many contacts among the wild goblin tribes that roam the dry lands, and in fact was raised by them, and taught the arts of magic by an old goblin shaman. The goblins mine gems for Rajib, and he in turn supplies them with tools, weapons and information. The dry lands crossing can be dangerous, and many a caravan has fallen prey to thirst, sandstorms, or perhaps even gobin bandits. Since no remains are ever found, who can say what their fate might have been? If a person were to pay close attention to Rajib's stock over time, though, one might notice that certain items are sold, then come back into his possession to be sold again, over and over.

Ok, Buttercup, I'm game. (great NPC, I like him). Rather than come back with an NPC, I'll throw in some setting, and see what you do with it. (BTW, the map was originally generated with Izandawo, which is a free download, then modified with paintshop).

I assume a low magic Conanesque setting, where wizards and sorcerers suffer consequences from their magic, and most of the gods are scary old-one type monstrosities.

Here's the map. Which city should the ziggurat market be in? (It has two tiers, plus the two rooftop levels.

Cool map! It's giving me some ideas, give me a day or two.

I think the Zigurat should be in the free town. It's more likely to have an 'anything goes' atmosphere, I'd think.

Oooh, oooh, my turn...

Khadar the Mad
Human Male Cleric 9; Al: CN; CR: 9 Size M (6'5" tall); HD: 9d8; HP: 62; Attack: +6/+1; Fort ;Str 10 Dex 11 Con 12 Int 14 Wis 19 Cha 12; Languages Spoken: Common, Draconic, Ignan; Skills: Concentration +12, Knowledge (Arcana) +12, Knowledge (Religion) +12, Scry +12, Spellcraft +12; Feats: Alertness, Spell Focus (Divination), Brew Potion, Skill Focus (Scry), Extend Spell
Domains: Fire, Knowledge

Khadar the Mad is a strange figure in the bazaar, a lunatic who preaches his message to whoever will listen. Khadar generally stands before a small fire and chants slowly, muttering the entire time of the ancient lords of Fire, who grant their knowledge to the elect. Most consider the old man a harmless distraction. The wiser know otherwise, occasionally visiting the old man for his knowledge.

In fact Khadar is salesman of the occult world, offering advice, insight and magical spells for a hefty fee. It is known by many that Khadar will answer any question for what he considers a reasonable sum of money (determined by the questions asked). Another darker service Khadar offers is this--for 1,000 pieces of gold, he will discover the location and activities of anyone's greatest enemy. For another 25,000 he will "set a death upon them"--this usually involves summoning a fire elemental or efrit, and tasking them to kill them, though Khadar has other methods. Khadar performs these services out of some twisted sense of duty, though it is rumored that his assassinations are in fact offerings to the secret Lords of Flame.

In combat, Khadar usually summons a fire elemental, and then flees. He will almost never engage combat himself, only fighting defensively.

here is one for those who can't get to the bazzar

he travels around and sells potions and scrolls for the standard prices found in the DMG. Carnack does not sell anything that can be used only offensively except burning hands because "Everyone should have the power to deal with Trolls"
Potions: I have given him a base chance per level of the spell (0-3rd) of having a given potion in stock: 0=60% (qty 1d6), 1=45% (qty 1d4) 2=30% (qty 1d3) 3=15% (qty 1d2) *note this does not include healing potions - he will have twice the above on hand for an additional 10% cost.
Scrolls: I have given him a base chance per level of the spell (0-4rd) of having a given scroll in stock: 0=75% (qty 1d8), 1=60% (qty 1d6) 2=45% (qty 1d4) 3=30% (qty 1d3) 4=15% (qty 1d2)
*note this does not include healing potions - he will have twice the above on hand for an additional 10% cost.

As Carnack both buys and sells the DM is free to include stuff not on Carnack's spell list - but keep in mind he does not deal in items that can only be used offensively.

Ed (Carnacks bodyguard) human F3/Bodyguard PrC4(quintissential Wizard book) blond, brown eyes 6'2" 220 lbs. age 30, Hit points: 94 AL:AC 20 LN STR 16, DEX 14, CON 16, INT 13, WIS 13, CHA 9 (Ed doesn't say much so some folks think he's "slow")
Saves FORT +8, REF +6, WILL +5 BAB +6/+1 weapons +2 Battleaxe, Masterwork lt. x-bow, masterwork longsword. Armor +1 Gorgon Leather armor (quintissential rogue book) +5 AC 5 max DEX. +1 sm. steal shield.
Skill ranks: handle animal +10, listen +5 ride +3, sense motive +5, spot +5
feats improved init, power attack, cleave great cleave, absorb blast, bodyguard, iron will, lightning reflexes

Carnack usually drives the wagon while Ed rides shotgun. Also in the wagon is a flesh golem.

Carnack and his cousin Milo (a priest of Madriel in the SL) have gone into the potions and scrolls business. from their house they make potions, scrolls and some alchemical items all winter and come spring Carnack travels around and sells them at various mage fairs and towns. Carnack is a pleasent sort of man and is always happy to deal with townsfolk and adventurers buying scrolls/potions or rare/exotic spell components. The 2 partners have been doing this for the last 15 years and while not rich they are comfortable, and content to provide their services to the people of Darakeene and making a modest income in the process.
