Battle Graph -- in my hands

Okay, used them a little this evening during our session. They work well, about as well as I expected. As Longtooth mentioned above, the "groove" between squares (really lines where the whiteboard-like surface is etched away) "capture" marker color and don't erase, so if you look very closely you can see darker areas on the already-dark lines where I drew with a marker.

Also, while usually the puzzle piece tiles fit together snugly, a did encounter a few times where the pieces just did not want to fit together. I was eventually able to get them to snap in place, though it was much tighter than usual and the lines didn't quite line up (we're talking millimeters off, is all though). So, not a perfect product, but a more than adequate one.

My Battle Graph dry erase boards came today. When Longtooth Studios said that the product would launch May 1, I expected my preorder to ship then (today), not arrive. Color me impressed with that.

You might have gotten your sets quickly because you are just an hour and a half away from them.

I think the darkening of the lines over time might be a plus as long as it doesn't get all over everything.

The only worry I have is with the darkening... do you guys think it might come to a point that it would get so dark that you cannot tell when you draw in it?

No, I don't think so. The lines are narrower than even the tips of my bullet-tip markers; most of the color ends up on the whiteboard material on either side of the line. Like I mentioned, the "darkening" is extremely hard to see unless you're specifically looking for it.

I've attached two photos below (sorry for the crummy camera). In the first, if you look very closely, the thick line to the left was colored green with a dry erase marker, and the thick line to the right was colored dark blue. In the second picture (the horizontal one), the dark blue line is in the middle. Either way, it's pretty hard to see. Hope that alleviates any concerns.

I am interested in the fit issue you mentioned. I have arranged and rearranged these at many points during testing and manufacturing and the tabs always fit into place well. The fit should never so tight that a single board cannot be lifted freely from the rest. If this is true then fit is most likely not the issue, but rather how the board has been placed into position and can be gently coaxed to fall into place.

We designed in just a little play to reduce binding which may be what is causing the misalignment. Which should be barely a line's width.

It wouldn't hurt to go ahead and fill the lines in black if you wanted. It doesn't really affect performance, and once black, they wouldn't change further. I had thought about filling in the lines as part of the process, but it really isn't worth the time invested to do the same to thousands of boards.

Thanks GJX, I image that eventually all your grooves will just end up as a blacky-browny colour rather than the natural colour of the wood, not really a prob I guess.

Now Mr L. Studios, what about shipping to NZ.. for 16 tiles....
