I prodded Weem to make a cool icon to help and poke fun at the 'edition wars'. It's also a half-throwback to Firefly and the battle of Serenity Valley. As a consumer of each product and company, I thought it was funny. And yes, this post is just so I can check it out myself----live.

How about a "Survivor of the Edition Wars" for the many who did not fight in the wars but suffered the consequences anyway?

1) That is awesome.

2) I think an alternative would be to have "medals" like the army. You get one medal for each D&D transition you "survived."

So I've played the Holmes set (my first game), BE, BECMI, AD&D (1st and 2nd Edition), D&D (3rd Edition), and I've played a little bit of 4th. So how many medals is that?

6 transitions, so 6 medals (campaign medals?). Personally I would award myself 4 (Moldvay Basic > Mentzer Basic/Expert > 1st Ed AD&D > 2nd Ed AD&D > 3rd Ed D&D) although it could be argued that Moldvay and Mentzer Basic D&D are so similar that there wasn't much transition - perhaps a badge, or mention in dispatches for surviving Moldvay > Mentzer and 3.0 > 3.5

No, no, no. Only major edition wars get medals. But you get an oak leaf cluster to indicate survival of multiple versions of the same edition.

Fortunately, I have only earned one purple heart as the result of a campaign prematurely ended due to an edition war.
