Origins Paintball

HellHound

ENnies winner and NOT Scrappy Doo
So, anyone here signing up for the Paintball run @ Origins this year?

Here is the email I got from the organizer:

---
The paintball event is Saturday. The event
starts at 0900, and we're pulling out of the
convention center at 0915. Splatterpark fields
don't open until 10, so we'll be ready to go by
the time they open up. We'll play until 2,
with short breaks (including lunch), load up
the bus by 1415 and be back to the convention
center by 1500. I'm a stickler for this,
because I don't want to interfere with players
schedules. If we have excess field paint at
the end, we have a quick suicide round (as I
mentioned in my recap) to make sure everyone
gets their money's worth.
---

I know *I'll* be trying to be there to represent team DreadGazebo.

(footnote: that picture is from our last pumps-only event... well, the newbies got semis, and Ken got a semi too, but it was his PT Extreme, so it only holds like 7 shots)

Left to right:

Squidhead (artist, Necromancer's Legacy web version)
Me (just some guy)
Trauma (artist, cover of Arcane Strife)
Andrea (artist, cover of Kid's Colouring Book)
Ken (local paintball enthusiast)
Kristan in behind there (tall local paintball enthusiast, old member of my gaming group)
Christine (new girl, first time at the farm - give her a gun and let her rip!)

Hey HH, what kinda marker you own?

I recently got into the sport and I love it. That's why I've been off the boards of late.

In the picture I'm lugging a Stingray. It's an el-cheapo pump, but one that has worked reliably wihtout ANY maintenance now for almost four years.

My primary is a Tippmann 98 Custom with the e-trigger package. The Tippmann might not be the most accurate gun on the field, but it is VERY reliable and tough, great if you don't play all the time and also great if you don't like to invest a lot of time in maintenance.

The same cannot be said for the e-trigger package, but at least this way that is the ONLY thing I have to maintain on the marker, really.

I'm going to see whether I can borrow Kristan's A5 instead though, for the game. That maker is a BEAST OF WAR. I love it.

I can't stand automatic paintball guns, doesn't that really take any possible element of skill out of it? Or is the thrill just the ability to shoot massive quantities of ammo?

Single shots for me, please!

By 'automatic' are you refering to the semi-autos most of us carry, or the full-autos?

I am not a fan of the full-autos either. Kristan has his A5 rigged for autofire and it's brutal and generally unsportsmanlike in a standard field.

My own 98 Custom is running the e-trigger kit, but is set at single-shot / semi-auto (one trigger pull, one ball). I like e-triggers for the responsiveness and light action, not for the full-auto conversions.

This is sort of off-topic from the post...

But has anyone every participated in the Sunday Morning GenCon Nerf Weapon Fight?

Not sure how long they've done it or if they still do it. I haven't participated since I was a vendor in '96.

But man, that was a blast...Sunday morning before the doors open (about a half hour) they have a 15-20 minute nerf weapon fight all over the floor with the vendors. Then they clean up really quick and open the doors for the Con.
