Castles & Crusades spell components

I'm getting ready to run a Castles & Crusades campaign so I have been re-reading the rules. The Castle Keepers Guide seems to recommend having a method for your player's to keep track of components to keep high level casters balanced but, so far, doesn't really give any details as to how other than keeping it simple to not make the game boring. In the past I generally ignored them and assumed spellcasters had what was needed unless it was rare or expensive. I was just wondering how others approached it (if at all since the game seems to rarely come up here).

Relying on the player to track is a crapshoot at best, even with a player that is generally honest and forthright.

I'm thinking of something with generic 'packets' like 4e ability cards that we would flip over with encounter and dailies cast. Not sure if they are attached to a spell specifically or just as a more generic component, maybe by level. If 5th level components tend to cost about 500 gold, then you buy a couple and good enough it for any of that level.

I try to make things as simple as I can for stuff like this.

Not Castles & Crusades, but my most recent approach is that aside for things that cost money, everything is fine with a focus, but I am strict about needing to have free hands to get out a focus and/or do somatic gestures, and an ability to speak the verbal components clearly. So I guess my suggestion is to use the other components you don't need to track to put a crimp on casting if you need or want to.
