What do you want to know when joining ENWorld?

We have a strong list of community guidelines which should always be the first place to send new members.

But, let's face it, we have a huge variety of posters. Worldwide reach with different cultures represented. People who played Chainmail when it came out to people who are just joining our hobby. A wide variety of neurodivergent and neurotypical posters and readers, some of whom will do better with a hard list of rules.

So I put this together as a question thread, where you can post your thoughts and they can be voted up and down by others. Reading the Community Guidelines is assumed, everyone is presented those when creating a new account. But what else should folks know?

EDIT: Hmm, can a question thread only have one solution to be voted on per poster?

On some forums @Xenolith234 the "display" name is different than the account name. So if you want to @ someone, you need to know their account name. Not sure if that's the case here, or if that makes sense :) but I know it's the case on places like proboards.

I want to know how to mention a user cause I have nooooo idea. Tried various methods (using BB-code mention and @) and none of them seemed to work.
I have never had a problem using the @ sign, but I rarely use it. You can always quote a user and they should get an alert.

Edited to add: I would double check spelling when using the @ sign, and also be sure they still have their account. Mind sharing the username you were trying to mention? Others here could test. Also, check which editing mode you are in (I don't think the @ menu will pop up in BB Code view), and that you are using a standard and current browser.

Sure, it was I'm a Banana. I typically use the regular editing mode, not BB code. And of course, now that I try to @ them this morning, it works with no problem. :rolleyes:

@I'm A Banana

I think it works fine for me. Are you by any chance not from the US or not using a standard keyboard for some reason? This is a complete guess, but could you somehow have been using the wrong apostrophe? There are two in standard unicode: U+2019 and U+0027. The one ENWorld wants is the 0027 version.

Also, hello Mr. Banana. Can I call you I'm?

Nope, from the US and a normal keyboard! Maybe it was just a UI hiccup on my side.
