The Table of Contents for both Heroes of Faerun and Adventures in Faerun.

Picked the books up this morning and love what I’ve seen so far. I’ll answer whatever questions I can here.

I see it's still basically the Sword Coast. Calimshan and Icewind Dale are on that coast, and the Moonshaes are off of it. The only significant expansion away from the Sword Coast is the Dale Lands.

I also wish they had included Baelnorn in the bestiary.
I mean, if you want to be technical, the "Sword Coast" proper is only between Waterdeep and Baldur's Gate, neither Icewind Dale or Calimport are on the Sea of Swords.

However, if you look to the 50 page Gazateer of Faerûn in the Heroes book, it covers the entire northern 2/3 of the continent, including the Unapproachable East.

I have little interest in running the Realms, but these ToCs are piquing my interests, the organization of sections alone makes me eager to read more, and strikes me as a great framework for expanding areas in the future or for use in presenting areas in other settings.

Frustratingly, the spells section does not update any of the cantrips from SCAG, such as green-flame blade, booming blade, etc.

The new spells are (many/most updates from earlier editions)
  • Alustriel's Mooncloak, L5 abjuration (bard, druid, ranger, wiz)
  • Backlash, L4 abjuration (bard, sorc, lock, wiz)
  • Blade of Disaster (no longer black), L9 conjuration (sorc, lock, wiz)
  • Cacophonic Shield, L3 evocation (bard, sorc, wiz)
  • Conjure Constructs, L3 conjuration (wiz)
  • Death Armor, L2 necromancy (sorc, wiz)
  • Deryan's Helpful Homunculi, L2 conjuration (cler, wiz)
  • Dirge, L6 enchantment (bard, cler)
  • Doomtide, L4 conjuration (bard, cler, lock)
  • Elminster's Effulgent Spheres (formerly Epuration), L6 evocation (druid, sorc, wiz)
  • Elminster's Elusion, L2 abjuration (wiz)
  • Holy Star of Mystra, L8 evocation (cler, wiz)
  • Laeral's Silver Lance, L3 evocation (cler, sorc, wiz)
  • Simbul's Synstodweomer, L7 transmutation (sorc, wiz)
  • Songal's Elemental Suffusion, L5 transmutation (druid, sorc, wiz)
  • Spellfire Flare, L1 evocation (sorc, wiz)
  • Spellfire Storm, L4 evocation (sorc, wiz)
  • Sylune's Viper, L3 conjuration (druid, wiz)
  • Wardaway, L1 abjuration (bard, cler, pal, wiz)
The list seems pretty frontloaded on the A-E, I wonder what got cut for space.

I saw that, but relatively few pages cover the whole thing. It's pretty much a high level overview of those areas.

The PC book has plot points in it? I mean, I guess it has to, to have history.
In the paragraph about Phandalin it talks about what's going on below the town, specifically the Shattered Obelisk and who's collecting it.

Fragments of Netherese civilization also dot this region, including pieces of psychic crystal. Mind flayers lairing in the Underdark beneath Phandalin collect these crystals and use them to mutate innocent victims in an elaborate scheme to create a new empire in Faerûn.
