Exactly. I appreciated that JJ included a "no sound in space" scene in his first Star Trek film, but then he had to go and show a flashback of Spock watching Vulcan implode with his naked eye from the surface of that ice planet. JJ calls himself a sci-fi fan, but he really doesn't appreciate the vast distances of space.
Yeah. My biggest issue with his films is he thinks Star Trek ships move at the speed of Star Wars ships. They cross the Federation in a few minutes. Kinda takes the "exploration" out of it when warp drive is practically a teleport. He doesn't realise that for Star Trek, the analogy is the Age of Sail. Plus he has capital ships move like fighters (which, to be fair, they do these days in Star Trek TV, also).

That, too. And then he went and made it so people can teleport across the galaxy in the next film ...
Yeah. It eliminates the idea of a frontier. A final frontier, no less. The very core concept of the show.
