Just discovered Inspirisles. A TTRPG that helps teach sign language (to cast spells)

Saw a random advert on FB for Inspirisles. An all ages RPG that teaches some sign language basics while playing the game.

After seeing the movie CODA which has become one of my GOAT films I decided to try to learn ASL. Sadly, it's really hard when you have no one to sign with. Sure I learned letters and numbers and some other signs but just learning things by memorizing doesn't really help it stick IMO.

Anyways

I've ordered the core book which seems to just use some basic signs like letters and numbers etc to cast spells (?) so to cast a fire spell you use the sign for fire. Clever! I'd say it even doubles as a RP aid since you have to "cast" the spells yourself sort of. Fun!

It's world and system is probably nothing amazing aside for the sign language aspect but I like RPGs and I like trying to learn ASL so hey. At least it will be fun to read and maybe at some point get the group to try it. I'll put on the list with the 20+ other games waiting to be played.

Oh, this sounds fantastic. My daughter is working on learning ASL (and runs through the alphabet as a calming/fidgeting tactic), she wants me to learn it with her. I may need to check this out. Thanks!

Don't knock "just" learning finger-spelling and numbers. That'll get you a long way and be a good back up when you can't swing other signs or proper ASL grammar (which isn't the same as spoken English grammar).

But having everyone sign to cast spells seems like it'd be a great way to help lock it all in.

That's pretty cool. I was once pretty fluent in ASL (thanks, BSA). I'd like to pick it up again. This might be just the ticket!
