The current tech level is pretty great, for the record. In most posters' lifetimes, the stuff we live with today was science fiction, some of it pretty fanciful.forever stuck in stasis of the current tech level then...
I experienced this recently at my once a year visit to a Burger King. The AI spoke clearly, didn't get distracted and, most importantly, got my order 100% right, which is not a guarantee at any drive-thru other than In-N-Out.I still remember the incredulity and slight discomfort I felt when I encountered an AI McDonalds Drive-thru taking my order. I'm kind of thankful that it was just a voice from a box and that they didnt have a Ronald robot dispensing the burgers and coke.
Sorry dude, not even a droid wants to hear about your D&D character. Finally, someone who'll listen to me talk about my D&D characters.
I remember a time when some fast places tried offshore call center order takers. I don't think it went over well. I have dealt with the AI drive-thru also. It was a surprise at first but like you said went better than some human interactions.I experienced this recently at my once a year visit to a Burger King. Since most fast food workers that work the drive-thru window are also doing other tasks, like pouring drinks or working an easy cooking station, I don't think AI order takers are going to displace any humans and will actually improve service for customers.
I'm an AI skeptic, but I have a hard time being upset about this one.
Health care. Its even mentioned. People feel a lot better when touched by something which feels like a human than by a cold robot. Then other uses:Why TF does an android (even one designed for elderly care etc) need human body temperature? Is it trying to infiltrate the human resistance?
Yup, already covered why you don’t need powered heating for most of that. Hugs, yes. Being able to dispense hot chocolate on tap, yes.Health care. Its even mentioned. People feel a lot better when touched by something which feels like a human than by a cold robot. Then other uses:
- The robot giving massages
- The robot being a training dummy for massages or CPRs or health care personal etc. (learning how to touch humans is better when its more natural)
- In general being harder to distinguish to a human, thus feeling more natural to interact with (humans touch each other in many situations)
- Helping with treatment of patients which might have fear of touching humans.
- Testing products for humans like special clothes, which need to not melt/get fast destroyed by body temperatur etc.
I'm surprised bit I must admit that those are actually good ideas, particularly 2, 4, and 5. Not so much 3; I still feel that some kind of cartoony design would be better for general interactionHealth care. Its even mentioned. well given the age of most posters here you were also promised jet packsThe current tech level is pretty great, for the record. In most posters' lifetimes, the stuff we live with today was science fiction, some of it pretty fanciful.
The only thing science fiction writers were too optimistic about, really, was space travel.
