I loved 5e Curse of Strahd, but in the multiple times I ran it I always found myself darkening it up from the published material.

The latest iterations of Ravenloft were akin to Scoobie Do adventures. Ravenloft badly needs darkening up.

I don't really see the difference, Ravenloft has always been Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. If anything, the latest Ravenloft had more than one theme among the domains IMO.

Ravenloft can be very grimm or soft horror according DMs preferences. There is even space for the horror+dark comedy hybrid. Sometimes it's even more terrifying to mix it with cruel humor.
