I am reminded again why I hardly ever get to the end of EnWorld topics - we have some actual useful news and then 2 people start arguing on page 10 about something that only affected 2E AD&D Ravenloft, and by page 20 it is as far removed from the topic as it can be and provides no information about the upcoming book... Sigh. A mod should have moved all this discussion to a "2E Ravenloft Fear/Terror checks discussion" topic ages ago.

I found an even larger image, and yeah, I'm gonna say that if this isn't the Relentless Killer art, I'll eat my britches.
So back on the actual topic, the book - thanks for this image, I love the Relentless Killer being basically Pyramid Head if he decided he was more into churches than geometric shapes. :D Funnily we did have a mini like this, in Dreamblade!

Where did you find this art, btw? I wish we had a leak of the table of contents at least...

I started with ad&d2e and agree. The comment about lethality was in comparison to 5e. PCs survived in those old editions because they rolled with caution and a plan while working together. That's a vast difference from 5e where those things can be treated as an afterthought in favor of face rolling through encounters like leroy Jenkins and expect to survive easily barring execution by the gm

Cutting words
Death save
Letstakeashortrest

Death save
Healing word
Death save
Letstakeashortrest
That's not even a full list of those kinds of abilities
None of those things matter for what you are talking about here from every experience I have had.

I disagree for two reasons. The first being the obvious fact that they are all great examples of the kinda things that should be targeted in a section

The second being the fact that the drastic difference in risk & lethality between 5e & older editions is dramatically different despite all of them hypothetically allowing the GM's to change a quest to kill zombies & skeletons to killing mummies vampires & liches. That too is something a section like the one referenced above should also address among its rules revisions & additions.

This book's marketing not so much as mentioning anything of the sort does not give a strong indication of wotc deciding to include a similar section in the third 5e ravenloft book

from every experience I have had.
Ok? Subjective experiences are subjective even with life saving risk trivializing reactive PC abilities that initiate a retcon. I've never claimed to be a mind reader & don't see a reason to start now.

I found the art here! And I agree, the Relentless killers were my faves from the 2021 book, so I'm excited for this update!!

Fact: Ravenloft was published in 1983 for 1st edition, as was the sequel Ravenloft II: The House on Gryphon Hill (1986). The 2nd edition boxed set wasn't published until 1990, 7 years later.
Yes, and you know people are talking about the campaign setting, not the two modules. (The second which doesn't even sync up with the first one, let alone the later setting). But you are persisting with this for some reason.
