Wizards of the Coast is getting back into the Actual Play game. Today, Wizards announced via Variety that they are launching a new Actual Play show called Dungeon Masters, starring Jasmine Bhullar as the Dungeon Master along with players Mayanna Berrin, Christian Navarro, Neil Newbon and Devora Wilde. Wilde and Newbon are veterans of Baldur's Gate 3, a smash hit for the Dungeons & Dragons IP. However, both actors will be playing new characters and not their Baldur's Gate 3 characters.

Of note is that the show will feature "official, unreleased D&D content" which will be put up for sale on D&D Beyond following every episode. The first arc takes place in Ravenloft and will feature content from Ravenloft: The Horrors Within. New episodes will be released weekly on YouTube, starting on April 22nd.

Wizards of the Coast previously produced several official D&D Actual Play series, including Dice, Camera, Action and Force Grey. Dice, Camera, Action was their flagship D&D program for years until it unceremoniously ended due to a scandal involving two of its players.

Hello, I watched this and it is not a bad story. Too heavy on the acting for me, but as I understand it these are actors making an introductory series. Over the past few days I have been researching the game to see if this is normal and came across strange things in this regard, Matt Mercer Effect, and more. I understand, this man to also be an actor.

I noticed discussions about video games and 2 of these players are from one recent one, and anothet a friend or co-worker of Mr. Mercer for his game.

While researching other names, I found myself on this website and a layoff discussion from 2023.

I digged a little deeper and found many links to 2023 from this premiere. Was it made in 2023 and held until now for release?

Neil and Devora are both in the 2023 game Baldur Gate 3. This was the height of relevance for these voice actors in regards to D&D.

Amy Dallen was a producer of D&D Beyond until the layoffs of late 2023, she appears in the SPECIAL THANKS, section of the credits. I can see no reason her name would be there if this is a recent production as she was terminated with many others over 2 years ago. They should be thanking current employees of the Beyond project if it was current?

Also found lots of other events in 2023, that make me feel this was supposed to be released then, but bad PR may have made it been shelved; OGL and the Honor Among Thieves flops.

As I said, I love to read and the fantasy novels are my favorite, so am I reading too much into this? Is my mind trapped in the Mists?

Good luck to the people making this, and thanks for any corrections on my misunderstandings, as it may just take a long time to make these shows.

One more question. Why would they use a Forgotten Realms town map in Ravenloft, if they left Forgotten Realms, namely Baldurs Gate, to get there?

Thanks to anyone that reads or attempts to answer this.

No. Neil had a much better haircut in 2023. And they have been increasingly playing D&D since the release of BG3, talking about "height of relevance" feels really weird.

Not sure how, as they would not be promoting a 3 year old video game today that the studio dropped for other things.

To me it would be akin to have Tom Cruise out promoting Top Gun: Maverick today, it lacks relevance to anything and would be an outdated promotion.

BG3 is the most popular D&D thing (other than the books) that they own and can use in marketing. (Critical Role is more popular, but that would cost them a lot more to use to market a book.)

There's actually a bunch of tie-in books and other products created by third party licensees coming out this year. BG3 is still immensely popular with people like my wife having played through it more than a dozen times. One of her coworkers has just started yet another playthrough.

I would have done it for them in a day for less money (most likely). They should commission me.
I think their primary goal with these videos is to get actual play fans excited about upcoming books. At least for this first adventure, I don't think they thought anyone would care much about the map.

If more than a handful of people bring it up, I bet they'll make new maps for future seasons. I would let WotC know over on YouTube in addition to here.
