Wizards of the Coast is getting back into the Actual Play game. Today, Wizards announced via Variety that they are launching a new Actual Play show called Dungeon Masters, starring Jasmine Bhullar as the Dungeon Master along with players Mayanna Berrin, Christian Navarro, Neil Newbon and Devora Wilde. Wilde and Newbon are veterans of Baldur's Gate 3, a smash hit for the Dungeons & Dragons IP. However, both actors will be playing new characters and not their Baldur's Gate 3 characters.

Of note is that the show will feature "official, unreleased D&D content" which will be put up for sale on D&D Beyond following every episode. The first arc takes place in Ravenloft and will feature content from Ravenloft: The Horrors Within. New episodes will be released weekly on YouTube, starting on April 22nd.

Wizards of the Coast previously produced several official D&D Actual Play series, including Dice, Camera, Action and Force Grey. Dice, Camera, Action was their flagship D&D program for years until it unceremoniously ended due to a scandal involving two of its players.

Not sure how, as they would not be promoting a 3 year old video game today that the studio dropped for other things.

To me it would be akin to have Tom Cruise out promoting Top Gun: Maverick today, it lacks relevance to anything and would be an outdated promotion.
It's a game that takes 40 to 150 hours to play and then has replayability value a long time afterwards. But 3 years old is nothing compared to how old Ravenloft is and here they are promoting that.

As far as the other conspiracy theories for why it's an old production that was shelved. The people who got fired would have had their names all over the production if that were true. You credit people for their work, not that they work there.

(And I'm 100% certain that Amy Dallen pushed for WotC to make an actual play when she was employed and the special thanks is because of her hard work in trying to convince people they should.)

BG3 is the most popular D&D thing (other than the books) that they own and can use in marketing. (Critical Role is more popular, but that would cost them a lot more to use to market a book.)

There's actually a bunch of tie-in books and other products created by third party licensees coming out this year. BG3 is still immensely popular with people like my wife having played through it more than a dozen times. One of her coworkers has just started yet another playthrough.

I see the discussion now about those books you mention. I had no idea there was no other game for D&D to have attention. It seems like a lost opportunity. Thanks for you answers.

Yes, Revenloft is old, but as I understand it, it has had recent releases, while this video game series was last seen in the 1990's prior to the one with Mr Newbon.

I double checked Ms Dallen in the credits, and she is also credited as: Series Producer, under the section: HASBRO ENTERTAINMENT WIZARDS OF THE COAST. So she is back with them now to produce it?

Honor Among Thieves flops.

Small aside - Honor Among Thieves generated more interest in D&D than BG3 did during their first few months of full release.
What BG3 is doing is having an even longer tail than HAT. It remains driving interest because of the replayability.

The price point for the BG3 voice actors versus the HAT cast is significant though

Yeah, even the least expensive person in DADHAT almost certainly costs more than the most expensive person from the BG3 voice cast. And we also don't know how much that crew enjoys playing D&D, where we have seen the BG3 crew seems to have really gotten into it.

Also, if you need a better map, here are my two favorites from @Dyson Logos that fit the encounter as described

And they aren't purple
