Message: <blockquote data-quote="Orius" data-source="post: 1974864" data-attributes="member: 8863">I think that goes back to the marketing philosophy TSR used back in the '80s:  players would start with Basic D&D, then eventually move up into AD&D.   Not so much a problem in the 1e days when the two rule sets existed together and people would use material from both on a regular basis.  It was a bigger problem in the 2e days when the 2e core books seems to work on the same principle, but Basic D&D had gone OOP.</blockquote>
