Though some scholars call her the "Mage's Folly," most people know her simply as The Mirage. She was first sighted by a crew passing along the high cliffs of the coast nearly a decade ago. The crew thought she has smashed bow-first into the rock, but a closer examination revealed that they could see boulders on the other side of the ship. The Mirage is partially phased out of the Material Plane, the front third of her hull mired hopelessly inside the rock of the cliff-face. Her sails sag limply, unaffected by the winds which pass straight through them, and waves pass right through the hull. Attempts to use divination magic to ascertain what happened are contradictory. The two most accepted scholars claim, alternately, that the Mirage was caught in a magical rift between the Material and Ethereal planes which naturally arose along the shores; or, that during a storm the shipboard mage attempted to magically move the ship out of the Material Plane temporarily to keep it intact, but the spell failed in drastic fashion. A few less reputable diviners claim that someone from another plane was attempting to summon the ship away, but were thwarted by the shipboard mage, or that an angry sea-god trapped the sailors in their ship as punishment for some slight. Those who sail too close claim to hear cries of pain or weeping from the vessel, though other crews have recorded nothing but the wind passing through the rocks. At least one crew mutinied after passing the Mirage, claiming to have seen something crawling out of one of the ghost-ship's hatches. When the captain attempted to investigate, the crew threw him overboard and sailed off. Several of the men were hanged for murder, but the rest of the crew was pardoned given the circumstances. All attempts to dispel the magic around the ship have so far failed. One wizard who attempted to do so later went mad during the voyage, leading to rumors that the ship is cursed to remain forever trapped between this world and another.
