2015 Bamfies Awards Announced

Now in its second year, the Bamfsies Awards have announced their slate of winners. The Bamfsies Awards honor super-hero role-playing games, and is organized by the people who bring you the BAMF Podcast. The awards are a mix of curated awards picked by a group of judges selected by the organizers, and a fan's choice award that is determined by an online poll.

Both years, I have been asked to be one of the judges. Judges are asked to choose a super-hero game, supplement or multiple choices for their favorite super-hero oriented material of the year. Coincidentally, the game Worlds in Peril, my pick for the best of the years, was also the winner of the fan choice award as well.

Worlds in Peril is a Powered By The Apocalypse game about super-heroes and their stories. This was the first *World game that grabbed my attention and made me want to run it. The mechanics are explained in a clear manner that grabs the attention of people who don't have a mastery of the Apocalypse World approach to gaming. I've read both Apocalypse World and Dungeon World, and a few other *World games, but none of them grabbed in in the way that Worlds in Peril did. I think a lot of that has to do to the fact that I am much more of a fan of comics than I am fantasy fiction, and comic book games hold more of my interest because of that.

I'm currently using Worlds in Peril as the engine for one of my weekly games, and I am finding its methods to be refreshing. I suggest checking out the game at the link above if you're a fan of super-hero games, or just looking for something different in your gaming.

Congratulations to all of the great games that won this year, and be sure to check out all of the other judges choices.
