[sblock=Challenge parameters] The DC of the challenge is 17 for primary skill and 22 for secondary. You need 12 successes before 6 failures. Current Objective : Discover the truth about the smuggler’s intent Time Limit : Five round Primary Skills : Perception, Heal Directive : Only one success can be accumulated from the Heal skill. Only one person can aid an attempt at this skill at any time it is attempted. Only one success can be accumulated through the perception skill for each target, but there are 3 valid targets. Any of these checks can benefit from an unlimited number of assistants.[/sblock] [sblock=Rules] Action Points can be used to reroll a failed check I will indicate at least two primary skills for each stage of the challenge but there will always be secret primary skills. Be clever. As you accumulate success, the objective and the primary skills will change. For example, in this case, Heal is a primary skill for the purpose of reviving the unconscious Tiefling. Once he is conscious and talking, heal will no longer be a primary skill but it will unlock other skills. I won’t always be this explicit, by the way. Often you’ll need to figure out what I want you to do. And sometime you will figure out a method of achieving the objective I didn’t consider but agree with and I will then pretend that it’s what I meant all along... Round : Each of the PC act once and then that’s a round. During a round you can; 1 – Stick your neck out and attempt a skill check that goes toward success or failure. Describe what you are doing. If it makes no sense, it will be disallowed. 2 – Aid someone attempting such a check when appropriate. Describe how you are helping. If it makes no sense, it will be disallowed. Due to the nature of PbP, aid another can be declared after the roll that you want to aid has been rolled. Yes, it can even turn a failure into a success. Remember; Aid another is DC 10 using the same skill as the skill you are aiding. 3 – Attempt a support action : Try something that doesn’t contribute to the success/failure total nor directly aid one person but instead has an influence on the rest of the challenge. Rituals and some powers can be used as well as clever use of skills. 4 – Stand on the sideline and say something witty. Sometime none of the skill check available allows for aid another and you don’t want to risk a failure... You have 5 rounds, so that’s 30 actions. Obviously enough as long as you don’t make too many aid another check and not enough proper skill checks. Skill : The stated primary skill check are guaranteed to be at DC 17. Being creative, as long as you can make a plausible explanation of how the skill you want can be used to contribute to the current objective, it can be used. If I agree that it should be a primary skill, it will be DC 17 otherwise it is DC 22. But be careful, such creative thinking can be rewarded or it can sometime lead to automatic failure. (either DM judgement or due to story facts unknown to you at the time). As a rule of thumb, a PC can only retry a failed skill check if it was a primary skill. Often, another PC can try what you failed, though. i.e. if you failed an Arcana check, you don’t recall the information you were looking for and can’t try again but another PC could do it. But when the objective changes, perhaps you can use the skill again for a different purpose. It is all a matter of context so use common sense. Also, some clever ideas for a non-orthodox skill check might be redirected by me as a support action, based on my judgement. Powers : Normally, activating a power to support a skill check doesn't count as an action. Unless of course you want it too! Also, you still haven't recovered your used powers but you will by the end of the challenge. [/sblock]
