I was thinking more of "Night of the Comet" (without the humor factor).

Except the agent which turns the people into zombies is a man-made biological weapon, a la "The Stand." At least that's what I got from the trailer.

I saw 28 Days Later this evening - thought it was pretty good.

Spoilers ahead - don't read if you don't want to know....

The film's about a guy who wakes up in a deserted hospital. He wanders out to find the whole of London deserted. When he enters a church he is attacked by a priest who is in some kind of berserk rage, foaming at the mouth etc.

He runs from the priest and soon finds himself running from a crowd of people, all berserk, all intent on ripping him to shreds with their bare hands. He is rescued by a couple of people who take him to a safe hole and fill him in.

The whole of the country has been infected by a virus which turns people into mindless raging psychotic berserkers. As far as they know, they are the only people left in the country. There's no electricity, no TV etc.

The story follows them as they make contact with other survivors, lose some of their own and eventually make it to a military base where there are 7 or 8 armed soldiers who have set up a decent defense perimeter and are holed up in a big mansion, trying to make a start on civilisation - they've started by getting electricity generators running, hot water etc.

That's about halfway through the film. I won't spoil the rest, but that should give you an idea of what sort of movie it is.

That's the plot of Omega Man, pretty much, except people who become infected become, in effect, living vampires.

That's essentially the plot of Day of the Dead.

So, it is like Omega Man and Day of the Dead. Which is exactly what the trailer made it look like. I'm not ragging on it, just pointing out what it sounds like.
