Okay, I love Ravenloft. It's one of my favorite published settings. I love the folks at Kargatane, too. They're some great guys, and they've done a fantastic job keeping Ravenloft alive and growing, both before and since White Wolf purchased the license. I have nothing but the utmost respect for everyone involved. But I think they're making a substantial mistake here. What would happen if Microsoft released a package of software where some of the programs worked on Windows 95 but not ME or XP? By accepting 2nd edition adventures into the netbook, they're going to end up with multiple sections of the book that are useless--or at least time-consuming and difficult to use--for the vast majority of those who use the book at all. Yes, there's still a segment of the market that plays 2nd edition, but it's, overall, a small segment. If they want to accept adventures with stats for both 2nd and 3rd, I can at least see that, although I still think it's wasted space from a market standpoint. (And yes, I know this is a netbook, and thus free, but market issues still apply to usability factors.) But to allow even one adventure that's just 2nd edition is, I feel, a poor decision. Just my two cents, though. And I'll certainly check out the book regardless. I just know that I'm going to be disappointed if I find an adventure I really want to use--either in RL, or adapted to other settings--that's only available in 2nd edition stats.
