[3.0]Cleric/Monk (how's this for a character concept?)

I'm thinking about a new character concept, and I wanted some input on the character:

I will start the character out as a human monk, gain 2 levels, and then start taking levels as a cleric of Fharlanghn. Storywise, he will start out as a Monk seeking enlightenment, and Fharlanghn will have come to him during a meditation session. Starting out as a wandering, adventuring Monk, he will have realized that the true path to enlightenment lies in the worship of the deity of travel and adventurers.

The combo works mechanically (I think), since I don't want to play a heavily armored character, and I love the quarterstaff.

I need input from you people! I need suggestions on feats/skills/ criticisms on this idea. This is a really rough idea of where I want to go, and I'm in no means grounded into it.

Thanks in advance for any input!

edited title, see my post later on down the page.

Off the top of my head, you may have a problem. To be a cleric of Fharlanghn you need to be chaotic. To be a monk you need to eb lawful, and if you stop being lawful, you lose a lot of your abilities. :(

There are alternate martial arts schools that allow for neutral alignment, so if he chose one of those he would be able to do this. But in any case, I don't see him trying to take any more levels in monk, once he turns cleric.

Also, by bailing out of Monk early, you're going to lose out on some of the improved Flurry stuff that comes a little later -- and no way to improve it. It's a little better than TWF by itself, but you only get that one extra attack and still have the -2 penalty. Depends on how much you want to cast spells vs. how much you want to melee, though.

But the further levels aren't the issue, as you lose the abilities anyway, and clerics of chaotic gods can't be true neutral, by core rules anyway. See this thread: http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58085

From the SRD:

"Alignment: A cleric’s alignment must be within one step of his deity’s (that is, it may be one step away on either the lawful–chaotic axis or the good–evil axis, but not both). A cleric may not be neutral unless his deity’s alignment is also neutral."

edit: I noticed that the monk abilites aren't lost. Sorry, was wrong about that...

I'm pretty much taking the monk levels for the unarmored AC, with the cleric having a pretty decent WIS score (most likely). I don't care much about the flurry or anything else (although Evasion looks sweet!). I want to play a Cleric who can hold his own in combat, without having to be pigeonholed into wearing heavy armor.

Do Monks lose any abilities if they change from a Lawful alignment?

BTW, Fharlanghn is a neutral diety, not chaotic.

Well, I was wrong on both counts. Doesn't bode well for the rest of the day does it? Must of been thinking of the similar FR god...
