The adventurers -- Orinar, Lars, Menno, and Kyl -- along with newcomer Tiax sit in Curate Anselm's presence. Anselm, in full ceremonial plate armor, stands before the altar in Heironeous's chapel. Two other clerics attend. A scribe sits nearby at a small desk, quill and ink at the ready. One by one, the adventurers tell their story regarding the fey, Korax and his companions, and the mithral blade. Anselm asks few questions, letting the stories take their own shapes. His attendants simply stand nearby, eyes closed, seemingly in prayer. The scribe's quill scratches furiously across paper throughout the depositions. "It seems as if we have cause," Anselm says. "Sergeant, please see the arrest order is carried out for Korax and all of his companions." One of the clerics opens his eyes, salutes smartly, and exits with military haste. Time passes. Korax and company are heard before they enter the chapel. The dwarf's voice protests the loudest. "This is an outrage!" Korax bellows at Anselm. The curate gestures for calm. "Outrage or not, my word is law. Charges have been brought. You must answer them in my presence." Korax grits his teeth so tightly that they be heard to grind. Then, he grins. "No, I don't. I follow Clangeddin Silverbeard. I invoke the Treaty of the Three Axes." Anselm looks to Lars. "This invocation cannot be ignored, Lars. Do you understand what it means?" [sblock=Lars]The Treaty of the Three Axes was signed a generation ago between the hierarchies of Heironeous and Clangeddin to settle a border dispute. Followers of either deity can invoke it in order to demand trial by combat against accusers rather than face normal judicial procedures.[/sblock]
