3.5 books take a beating.

Mystery Man

First Post
Quick brain droppings from gaming last night using some of the new 3.5 rules.

Boots of S&S and Ring of Jumping powered down to acceptable levels.
Jump skill goooood.
Call lighting good.

Sqeezing works well but makes monsters very easy to hit. Makes sense, they should have a harder time trying to defend themselves crammed into tighter spaces.

Short night, players took a beating. All in all I like the new rules.

i was about to post something derogatory about the the squeeze rules, but luckily i thought about my post before clicking on "submit" and realized that i like it.

go figure.
:D

my first taste of actually playing with 3.5 rules is gonna be today.

We played last night too.

I don't know if it's new or old, but Empower Spell + magic missle = tedious. You have to calculate the empowerment on each missle individually. People were groaning.

New space/reach/squeeze rules = good and fun.

New righteous might/new harm/new Evard's black tentacles = stupendous.

New haste combined with many fire giants = Ugh!! (Good, I guess. Certainly scary :p )

Not to be pedantic, but

(1d4+1) * 1.5 + (1d4+1) * 1.5 + (1d4+1) * 1.5

is the same as

(3d4+3) * 1.5

I know the book says to empower each missile individually, but, really, when are the books ever right? :)

They aren't the same if you round on each missle.

It's not the same all the time. You have to round down with each bolt individualy, since they are seperate instances of damage.

so in the first method you get (with a roll of 4 for each)
7.5+7.5+7.5 then round down each for
7+7+7=21

(3d4+3) *1.5 gives you 22.5 or 22 with the same rolls.

Sure it is only one point of damage, but there is a difference.
