D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] CHALLENGE: Best way to hide/protect an item

Why are you trying to hide the phylactery instead of breaking it?

I'm not the OP, but a lich presumably has the resources to retrieve any item destroyed by a party of 6th level characters... wish is the first that comes to mind if the lich is a high-level wizard. Or, for about the same xp and with four months time the lich could just make another one.

8 months (240 days). If it works like crafting a Wondrous item, the 120,000 gp that the lich must pay in materials means it's a 240,000 gp "market" item (one which is never sold...), for a 240 day crafting time.

Whoops, my bad. Of course then the xp cost should be 9,600. More of Skip Williams' awesome editorial powers?

Once capable of epic spells, you could develop and employ Aumvor’s Fragmented Phylactery (Champions of Ruin, pg. 37) which can be cast over and over again... to either add more objects to or split an existing phylactary into more objects (no more than casting ability mod) that all qualify as the phylactary.

All such objects in the expanded set must be destroyed for the phylactary to count as being destroyed.

Once you have created a number of these objects beyond counting, you can put a good portion of them into the "holding bag portable hole" combo.

I also suggest, in Epic teir, to become a Dry Demilich. Each of the 5 canopic jars becomes 8 soul gems (40 total) and then you split each one? and they all have to be destroyed at the same time. Try killing that! (Note: Requires WitW 10 and +6 LA)

First, Nystul's Magic Aura for safety.

Second, kidnap a Kobold.

Third, order the Kobold to swallow the object.

Forth, Flesh to Stone.

Fifth, lead chest.

Sixth, drop lead chest into the mother loving ocean.

Seventh, for kicks, use Nystul's Magic Aura and Polymorph Object to fake a new object.

Eighth, hide the object where the lich could eventualy find it so we wastes time retrieving it.

Lich?

You do know that a lich is going to find his phylactery no matter what you do. your only going to evoke his wrath. seems I signed up for this site too quickly misspelled my name. oh well. yes but there is a construct called the grisgol in one of the monster manuals dont remember which but maybe you can creat that for the lich and somehow gain it as a cohort. due to the new found power you have bestowed onto it. I always like getting powerful allies and not all lich are evil. just the bulk of the mass.
