[3.5] Face / Reach changes

Ok,

I was looking thru the 3.5 page out front and read that all faces are going to be square. (ie an ogre that is large will be 10' by 10')

Does anyone know if this is set in stone?

And if so, any guesses on what the largest creature will be regarding face?

I have a mini/counter project I'm working on and want to make sure its set up for 3.5 properly.

Thanks

I'm not sure how secure this is, and even if it remains this way, I think we're going to have oddly shaped creatures... like Gigantic Centipedes. I don't see how certain creatures like this can be reduced to square sizes.

Actually, they can. Remember, the space a creature officially takes up in combat doesn't represent the actual creature's size and shape. It represents the space the creature can potentially occupy while shuffling about in combat and turning around (but not taking any official moves).

After all, a human doesn't take up a five foot square. But it's assumed the person is moving this way and that, ducking, dodging, weaving, repositioning--and above all, potentially turning around.

A giant centipede may not take up a square space physically, but in abstract terms, it can occupy any portion of the given square at an any point in a combat round (not counting official movement, of course).

Worms and centipedes don't fight as horses do either. They squiggle, wriggle, flip, flop, and generally are not occupying a little lengthwise area.

Didn't it say somewhere that they are going to use the same Fighting Space rules as for d20 Modern? I haven't got my book here, but the d20 Modern SRD probably contains info on FS size.
