D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 Fire Subtype question

Does a creature with the fire subtype produce a light source? I would think something made of flames would produce light, but I can't find any ruling on that. If it does, I'm wondering what the radius would be depending on the creature size.

By RAW, no.

Keep in mind, not every creature with the Fire Subtype is in flames.

However, it makes sense that a DM might rule that any creature that is in flames would put off light like a Torch, or however else they might want to rule.

I'd guess that if fire was on the surface of the creature's body, it doesn't matter the creature size, it'd still put off the same amount of light and I'd go with the torch.

If the creature's entire body was composed of flames, I could see a further light radius.

But this is all in DM call territory, and not RAW.

For example, lets take the Salamander:

Generates fire damage if you touch it. Definitely everything about this creature Screams "Fire!" However, a Medium sized Salamander has a +11 hide skill. Clearly, despite it's picture, it's not glowing brightly and easily picked out from behind concealment.

All this. I'd've xped the tiger here, but apparently I need to spread it around some first.

A monster with Fire Subtype just get from having that subtype an immunity to fire and it take +50% more damage from cold regardless of whether a saving throw is allowed or or if the save is a success or failure... Unless the description the monster with the Fire Subtype has in its description it is covered in flame when it would not give off light at all.

The Zezir from MM 3 have the Fire Subtype but they are not bathed in flames. The Balor (Balrog copy) is surrounded in fire but does not have the Fire Subtype at all.

it creates no light, but the heat of it's skin/scales most likely does fire damage, so most likely the flames are internal (hot blooded) which cools on death
