D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Variant Rule Death from Massive Damage Fort DC?

First Post
From the SRD:
Massive Damage: If you ever sustain a single attack deals 50 points of damage or more and it doesn’t kill you outright, you must make a DC 15 Fortitude save. If this saving throw fails, you die regardless of your current hit points. If you take 50 points of damage or more from multiple attacks, no one of which dealt 50 or more points of damage itself, the massive damage rule does not apply.

It's NOT optional, but core standard. I think it was that way in 3.0 as well.

That's from the 3.0 SRD, right?

'cause the 3.5 SRD can't be online already, can it?

It sure can be (the 3.5 SRD, that is)
Woo-hoo! I thought it would be posted on, like, the 25th of the month. Thanks! :D

Oh, and sorry for my hijacking the thread from massive damage to the availability of the SRD. :p
On topic, now: Massive damage is in the 3.5 PHB (p. 145 & glossary).

Both 3.0 and 3.5 have massive damage as a standard rule.

3.0 phb: p. 129
3.5 phb: p. 145

If you don't like the default massive damage rule, might I suggest taking the D20 modern version, which is to knock you to -1 hit points when you fail the save, rather than killing you outright.

The upshot of using this variant is that in a high magic environment like stock D&D, a cleric can get you back on your feet again...where as in D20 modern, that is rare. =)
