He went for a trip build with the Curling Wave Strike feat from Stormwrack, which lets you forgoe the extra attack from improved trip to instead trip someone else. He also was going for heavy investment in the Setting Sun discipline from Tome of Battle. It includes a LOT of techniques to throw an enemy for damage (and strategic positioning) based off of the tripping rules. Since a whip is a tripping weapon (so it should work with the maneuvers) you get a lot of extra reach to use those throws with. Could be a good build for you, just going Swordsage and either picking up whip proficiency via feat or dip into the Bard class.
There aren't really any feats for whips, in general 3E underutilized them, I think they just got the crappy whip climber skill trick. So best bet is to look into tripping and disarm stuff. My friend had a short lived whip build using a Whip-dagger (in arms and equipment guide, possibly was updated for 3.5, get it if you can).
