Message: <blockquote data-quote="drnuncheon" data-source="post: 1014557" data-attributes="member: 96">I've always wondered just how easy WOTC thinks it is to crush a gemstone.  I have images of this happening:[The party has been surrounded by half-dragon orcish blackguards led by a fiendish unicorn-lich.  The orcs laugh and mock the characters in their gutteral tongue as they advance, blades drawn.]Bob (Str 8 wizard): never fear...I'll summon my trusty staff of power using Drawmij's Instant Summons![Bob pulls out a large gem and squeezes it in his hand.  The gem remains unscathed, and nothing happens.]Regdar: Uh, Bob, any time now.Bob: Just a second, guys![Bob squeezes harder, the veins on his neck standing out.  Unfortunately, Str 8. The orcs pause to watch the show.  Fuming, Bob puts the gem on the ground and tries to crush it beneath his heel.]Bob: C'mon, staff of power...c'mon....Lidda: Why'd you leave that thing at home, anyway?Bob [putting all his weight on the gem to no avail]: ...shut up...Lidda: Because, I would think it'd be a handy thing to have in general.[Bob begins jumping up and down on the gem.]Jozan [pulling his mace]: Uh, Bob, we're just going to...go take care of this, OK?Bob: Almost got it![Jozan, Regdar, and Lidda turn and begin fighting the orcs.  During the combat, we see Bob trying various methods to crush the gem: beating it against the ground, the walls, trying to crush it between his teeth.  Finally an orc wanders over to see what he is up to, and becomes engaged in the process.  Meanwhile, the other three dispatch the rest of the orcs and unilich in a ferocious battle that we miss most of.]Regdar [runs his sword through the half-fiendish orc blackguard that's been helping Bob]: Well, that's the last of them.Jozan: Thanks for the "help", Bob.Bob [glaring fiercely at the gem]: ^&%#!Lidda: C'mon, lets go.Bob [to himself]: Maybe Bigby's crushing hand?  I'll just use Drawmij's instant summons to bring my spellbook to me...[pulls out another gem][Jozan, Regdar, and Lidda sneak quietly awa, leaving Bob behind them.  As they ease the door closed, Jozan scowls.]Jozan: What are we going to do for a wizard now?Lidda: I know one...she's an elf.Regdar: Elven chicks are hot!J</blockquote>
