But...each classes magic bonus tells you the maximum spell level you can have in that class. You can cast a spell level no higher than your magic bonus in that class.So in your example, your magic bonus total is +9...meaning you have a caster level of 9 and can theoretically cast 5th level spells.Your cleric magic bonus is +1...meaning you can only cast 1st level cleric spells.Your wizard magic bonus is +8, meaning you can cast 8th level wizard spells. Of course in this case, you caster level will lower that back to 5th level spells.If you gain a level of cleric (cleric 2/wizard 8), you now have a total magic bonus (aka caster level) of 10.
